Hello everyone. My name is Laura and my companion is Bailey. She is a dwarf rabbit af about 5 months. I adopted her about two weeks ago and she already is the love of my life.

When I brought her home, she was a spur of energy, however, everything changed. I brought her to the vet for her first check up about 8 days ago. Everything was fine. Today I went back because she stopped eating and lost weight. The vet took her weight again and told me she lost 20% of her body weight in 8 days. I don’t know how she was before I adopted her, but I continued her feeding the same way she had it when she was at the shelter. five days ago she just decresed her intake. The vet instructed me to put her on a babyfood and yogurt diet and to force feed that with a syringe every two hours.

I will post updates about how she is doing. I weigh her daily so I hope to see the numbers inclline soon instead of declining.

How was she housed before? An increase in exercise can cause a bun to slim down, but I’m not sure it would occur that quickly. Yogurt and dairy products are not good for rabbits. They can’t digest it properly. If the vet did not find anything wrong with the bun (no parasites: fecal test was negative, I assume?) and she’s still physically eating on her own, I would continue her on a consistent and nutritious diet, mainly based on hay. She is still young so she can have alfalfa hay for a few more months. Plain timothy pellets are good, do not give any seed or cereal piece pellet mixes. Veggies can be added to her diet now. Give one new veggie per week and watch to make sure she does not have any adverse reactions.

How is your baby now? Any better? It has been several days since you last posted….

I have a friend whose bunny is on yogurt daily because their rabbit savy vet advised her to use yogurt. I am not sure exactly why but the vet was very adament that the bun be put on yogurt along w/ all her other foods. I’m guessing if your vet is rabbit savy then her reasoning is probably the same as my friend.
