So I went to a firewood store and they had a 40lbs bag of Heat Resource Oak hardwood pellets for $4, I bought it and tested a pellet with warm water and it didn’t seem to really absorb any water.

The bag says “All natural” and I don’t smell any fuel accelerator in the pellets. I’m concerned that I bought 40lbs of bad litter, does it clump urine better in the litterbox over time or is it not going to work?

As long as they are normal wood pellets with no additives they should work well for litter I also use hardwood pellets for my rabbit and they work great as litter for me. I’ve never tried putting the pellets in water to test, but I’d give it a bit more time to see if they absorb more after a while! Or pour a small amount of water over a pile of the pellets to see if they absorb the liquid.

I’ll check tomorrow to see how it’s working for her. Our screen isn’t perfect there are some gaps on the side, will she be fine if she nibbles one? I make sure to completely cover the bottom with hay to prevent it.

How long did you leave the pellet in the water for?

They should work just fine, I don’t see any reason it should be bad.

It’s normal for buns to nibble a bit at new litter, it’s safe to eat. Thor tried a few pieces before deciding it wasn’t edible

For a few seconds, and I also left it in my toilet for an hour, it didn’t break up completely, a bit did but it still kept its shape while being flushed.
