Woke up the other morning to my rabbit, Kodak having head tilt. Took him to the vet and they said it was an inner ear infection and they prescribed this medicine called Enrofloxacin. Does anyone know anything about this medication and how long it will take for him to start feeling better on it? He hasn’t been eating either so I have been trying to force feed him critical care. Any tips on how to give it to him without him freaking out? he squirms so much that after a few bits of it I have to let him go.

Enrofloxacin’s trade name is Baytril, which is a common antibiotic given for a wide range of infections. Wick had it for his upper respiratory infection. If Baytril is effective against your rabbits ear infection, I’d say at least 1-2weeks is an appropriate length. For administration, this is how I give Wick meds: http://youtu.be/N12eJ5vdo4w

Do you think it will take him that long to eat on his own again?

It depends, he may start feeling well enough to eat on his own before the infection is completely cleared. You have to remember a rabbit will be feeling full from force feeding, so sometimes people will ease off a little bit to see if they get hungry on their own. If not, then they continue force feeding.

All he has really been eating is kale. I don’t want to give him too much just in case it upsets his tummy.
