  Olaf loves his hay but is a very messy eater. When I adopted him, the shelter let me borrow their plastic hay rack, but it was the kind that just hooks over the side of the cage. He really likes to tug on the hay as he eats so the jostling always spills hay out the back and onto the floor. I’ve since tried a more robust, wooden hay rack but had the same issue. I even made him a little hay “pouch” out of fleece with a large slit in it so he could pull the hay out. He didn’t like using it, eating less hay because of it, so I’ve resorted to piling hay near his food and refilling it whenever it gets low.
  
  Any suggestions for creative, but less messy, hay dispensing? I know our bunnies are designed for destruction and mess, which I kind of love, but I have allergies and the less hay everywhere the better. (I use orchard grass hay for less sniffling.) I was thinking about a wicker basket or even a cardboard box with cutouts? His loft (or dining room, as I have dubbed it) is narrow so I’m limited on how big the dispenser can be. Any creative ideas are appreciated. Thank you!

  I just keep the hay in the litter box and he spends his time in there eating and doing his business. During his play time I’ll give him some hay in a paper bag to toss around and if he’s sleeping out of his cage I might put a handful next to him because he likes to nuzzle it when he sleeps haha
  
  The hay stays in the box so its not messy at all.

  Great idea, unfortunately Olaf is kind of a neat freak with his box. I used to put a few handfuls of hay over his litter but he never ate it. To be honest, he started pushing it out after a while–creating yet another mess. Since I’ve stopped adding hay and use a grated litter box, he’s been much happier with the setup. How can one animal be so specific about one area and so messy in another?! :]
  
  I was thinking about cutting a few square holes in a small cardboard box to see if he’ll take his hay from there.

  Sounds random- we use a ferplast litter tray with the high back to dispense Theo’s hay from – he loves it as he can jump in and really pick out the good bits. It also means virtually no mess. This is the one I mean : https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B005ZAJR72?fp=1&pc_redir=T1
