Hay Feeder

Hi!  I did an introduction a while ago but haven’t had a chance to get back on until now.  I originally introduced with my “grandbunny” Kieko, but have since adopted two babies of my own to (hopefully) keep Kieko company.  Kieko is now 5 months old (turned into crazy attack bunny when she got a whiff of my babies so she’s now spayed).  My babies, Marlee and Moshi (half sister & brother) are almost 3 months old, hence just now have time to post!

I want to thank all of you for posting such helpful information.  While I haven’t had time to write anything, you all are one of the first places I look when I’m desperate for answers!

Speaking of desperate for answers . . I hope this is the right forum for this, but I’ve been trying to find the ideal hay feeder for our condo and baby cage — closed back and top to keep hay from flying outside the cages, large enough opening so my bunnies don’t have to struggle to get their hay, etc.  I *think* I found what I’m looking for — Bunny Bales hay feeder kit    —— (either wooden or metal) but I’ve left messages and e-mailed and can’t get a response.  Does anyone here know if they are still in business or has anyone ordered hay or feeders from them online lately?  I’ve seen a bit about them here and on another web site but none are current.  I’ve been using wire v-shaped “mangers” and all three bunnies have learned how to take them down, drag them around, and dump hay all over their cages!

Are Moshi and Marlee still housed together? At 3 months old, you’ll need to separate them if so.

Yes, Marlee and Moshi share a cage.  Our vet said Moshi’s testacles haven’t descended yet and they should be fine together.  Not sure I’m in agreement with him, but I don’t have much choice right now – can’t put him in with Kieko.  Vet says the plan is to neuter Moshi as soon as we can feel his testacles and then to spay Marlee when she’s six months old.  We took Kieko to another vet (she could get Kieko in within a day to be spayed after Kieko went nuts over the babies).  That vet said she would do both Marlee and Moshi at the same time (she did Kieko at 4 months and all went well).  Moshi is starting to mount Marlee, but he doesn’t seem to care whether it’s from the front, back or side.  Vet said it’s more a dominance thing — weird tho, Moshi is the one to do most of the grooming (of Marlee), but he has decided that he eats first, comes out of the cage first, etc.  He has even peed in the food bowl and sat on top of a pine cone (one treated for rabbits) that Marlee was chewing on until I gave him one too.  So, until neuter time, I’ve turned into the crazy bunny lady who says things like “No humping your sister” and “We don’t pee in our food bowl”, and spends time watching for any sign of bunny testacles and madly searching for the perfect hay feeder!

Haha, the crazy bunny person thing doesn’t really go away.

Do be very careful though. She could bite him where it hurts or they could generally start fighting. Also, the testicles can descend and be pulled back up. Once he is fertile, he’ll continue to be even for a month after neuter.

I don’t view being the groomer as a subordinate position. It can be when bunnies first meet and you see “groom me wars” but overtime it doesn’t always have anything to do with heirarchy. I think the bunny doing the grooming gets just as much out of it as the one being groomed. A vet one time said to me that anything done with the mouth releases endorphins. It makes a lot of sense to me when I think of the whole allogrooming thing.

Check out etsy- Andrea storck Bunnyrabbittoys. I just got three of her hay feeders- they are great- very similar to the picture above. Can get with or without attached litterbox.
