I’m wondering if anyone lives around my area, Richmond, BC. I’m looking for some hay thats cheap and good and so far- no luck. Anyone live around here? I’m still on the search. I dont have a job and its hard to save up $20 every 2 weeks to buy hay. The best hay I got so far is the Oxbow Timothy Hay, which costs a lot. Just wondering if anyone is near and around this area. If not is there any good hay selling websites for rabbits/other animals?

        Thanks!

Just wondering, how big are your bales for $20?

I can get hay where I live from farmers for under $10 and those big bales will last me several months. I don’t know where you’re buying yours from though. Right now I’m buying Kaytee timothy hay that comes in several sizes. The smallest bale is close to $4 and lasts around a week or so. (My bun is not a big hay eater)

Oh I forgot to ad that I don’t live around where you are.

Indeed I am around your area !

Unfortunately most places to buy hay are more in the cloverdale or surrey area.

I personally recommend the second cut Washington timothy at Vanderveens. Bale is 109 to 115 lbs for $24. I bought a horse hay storage bag plus use a large Home Depot box to contain it all.

Oh and if you don’t have room the rabbit rescue in Vancouver sells flakes for $ 10. They get the 1st cut Timothy from Westway. Might be a shelter in Richmond who sells flakes also ?

I’m getting Oxbow hay for around $20. Its like 90OZ.

I’ll try to see if I have time to go to the shelters. Thanks for the advice

If you don’t succeed in finding local hay that your bunny likes, you might consider keeping with the Oxbow (or another brand available online), but going BIGGER! The more you get, the cheaper the price, and hay will last a long time if properly ventilated and kept in a dry area. Rather than doing $20 for a couple weeks, you could get a 25 or 50 lb box that would last a very long time. It’s more money up front, but you won’t be constantly buying…

Yeah that seems like a good idea. It is cheaper in bulk. My bun isnt too fond of hay, expecially timothy since hes suppose to have alfalfa right now but the alfalfa I’ve seen at my local shop is disgusting; its all yellow and short and gross looking. Petsmart- no alfalfa? No idea why. He likes the oxbow better than the kaytee so I’m willing to pay for more the quality of the Oxbow! I might check online for big oxbow bags, maybe I’ll find some with decent prices
