Hi everyone! I just bought a brush for Floppy, its suppose to be really

good with getting the loose hairs and also not hurt the skin…but I am

having issues getting Floppy used to being brushed, everytime I begin

to brush him he moves and tries to find a place to hide where I can’t get

to him….any advice as to how I can make this an easier task for me?

        Thanks!

Some bunnies seem to like being groomed and will sit there while you brush them. Sometimes I find it goes easier if I put the bunny on my lap. Post grooming I always offer a lil treat as a reward.

I always have to distract Toki with treats and groom him while he’s eating. Otherwise he’ll run away. For some reason it seems easier to show Toki the brush first and then start to brush. I guess he doesn’t like to be suprised with the brush coming in contact with him. This way, he knows that he’s about to be brushed.

Brian makes a dash for anywhere far far away from me before I’ve even got the brush in my hand, (it’s not the brush type as we are now on the 4th type and he’s having none of it), i used to find feeding him treats worked well and he would put up with for so long, but Saturday afternoon, there I was, giving him a fussin’, and no sooner had i made a reach for the brush….he looked up, and dashed off. So i shook the treaty box, and over he ran, tucking in to his whatever it was i’d managed one small stroke of the brush, and off he went, leaving treat behind. That was the end of that. Weeny Bean’s obviously learnt quick, as she’s nowhere to be seen, until making a mad dash from under the bed across the room and into their cage.

if you can’t get a whole grooming session in, try little little and often. I get a 2 brusher in on their derriere’s as they retire to their cage for some nibbles.

My mini rex HATES to be brushed, I put him on the dresser on a towel and brush him. He whimpers and shakes despite how gentle I am. He’s a bit of a drama queen. If you put your bunny on the dresser make sure you stand in front  of him and pay attention so he doesnt jump down. Stormy never attempts to jump off. Hope this helps.

I sit on the floor and put Chloe between my legs. She knows it’s grooming time and most of the time will sit still. Chloe is a long hair which takes longer to groom, so I’ve learned to do it quick. With Kahlua, I sit in a chair and groom him in my lap. He’s a lionhead, so I put my hand over his eyes to groom his mane. A couple of strokes and he’s done. They know they will get a treat when I’m finished!

I forgot to mention the baby brush! It’s got a bunny on the back and it’s VERY soft white bristles. It does absolutely nothing to help with the shedding, but it feels VERY good on bunny faces, cheeks and ears. The buns like it a lot and helps keep them hanging out while we’re brushing. Another thing we do is lint roll them – since it works surprisingly well!

I bribe mine with the bunny-trance and a massage. : ) Of course I throw in a dried strawberry and they’re all good. I also find that talking to them in soft, calm tones helps too.

I’ve just given up on the whole brush idea and go for the only method that seems to work….giving the rabbits a good ol’ finger scrub, all over. They love it, out come their tongues for a good long lick of the carpet, my leg, or whatever else is available, the fur goes flying about in huge clouds….. and then out comes the hoover!!!

I got the metal brush and I don’t use it. To me it feels sharp and I brushed my arm with it and it scratched my skin. I can’t see using this on my buns. I just brush then with a normal soft comb.
