I was such a nervous wreck dropping him off this morning and when they called me today to pick him up I was so nervous to answer lol I was thinking the worse had happened because they called two hours earlier than the expected time of pick up they told me!

He hasn’t eaten or anything yet but it’s only been 4 hours since pick up. When should I expect at least a nibble?

I am glad to hear that all went well. as for the eating part it depends on the bunny. most males eat pretty quickly after the surgery but not all. I would call your vet if he hasn’t eaten by tomorrow to let them know. All my males were nibbling by the next morning after their neuter. I hope that he heals fast and binkies soon!!!

Thank you! He has yet to eat or drink anything. Or poop! He seems to be having trouble getting comfortable. I’m hoping he eats by tomorrow. He is making me worried :/ I hope I didn’t ruin a perfectly good, healthy bunny

It’s not unuasual for it to be a few hours before they eat. Did your vet mention pain medication ? Whether they had given him any prior to being sent home ?

They gave him some after the surgery. They didnt provide medicine for home. They said he wouldnt need any. If he is still acting really sore tomorrow do you think i could get pain meds from a different vet? his neuter was done 90 minutes away and wouldnt want to drive that distance for medicine if i can obtain it anywhere else. We picked him up around 2pm and it’s now 11. And he has made some very smelly poops! Now if he can eat and drink also, he does lick it quite a bit. His stitches are internal and he has glue as well… Do you think he can open up the glue?

Poop is a good start. If it has only been a few hours the pain meds are probably still working.
I didn’t get any extra for Piglet and he was fine by the next day and had very little discomfort. He was not a happy camper for the first few hours though. Just keep an eye on the licking he might need a “Collar of Shame” if he persists.
Have you tried offering some favourite treats ?

Ok he is def pooping again now! I was getting nervous there because everyone says they come back ready to eat and everything and He wasn’t doing anything. He’s pooping lots and they are soft but that’s expected. I just really want to see him eat before going to bed.

I’ve offered dill and romaine and a carrot. He seems uninterested. I’ve only had him a week so I do not know his “favorites” all I know is that he would gobble any vegetable you put in front of him so far. We have been experimenting with Sally because she has yet to eat a veggie so we’ve been getting different things and if she won’t eat a piece we just give it to Harley and he gladly accepts it. So he LOVES veggies but he just isn’t having it right now lol I’m hoping tomorrow morning he will want some though.

Is he eating yet? If not, I would suggest force feeding Critical Care. The vet really should have sent home pain meds. I’m not sure if another vet would give you some or not, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.

Glad he made it through the neuter well.

He is nibbling on hay as we speak! It’s 8am here now so it was only 11 hours of not eating. It’s not as much as I would want and he isn’t the must enthusiastic as I want but I’m so glad he has finally taken that first bite! Just put in some more fresh veggies to make them more appealing because I want him to get some moisture but he just wants his hay for now and I’m ok with that. I actually count the pieces so I can know if he is nibbling on them or not.
Gosh surgery is so stressful! I’m not looking forward to it again next month. The saw vet will be doing it so I will be sure to ask for medicine to go home with her. I know it can be much more painful for a girl.

I think it’s safe to say he has bounced back quite nicely he finished his salad bowl and has actually started nibbling on his pellets again. Yay! He is def wanting to run around though he keeps tossing his bowls around the cage. I have a long hallway with nothing t jump up on to. When is it safe to let him stretch his legs a bit? He is getting impatient. Would it be ok to let him int the hall to run around?

I would think so as long as the wound is looking OK. Piglet was having light exercise the next day I just made sure he could not jump up onto anything or get into mischief.

as long as he is tolerating everything well it should be, but if he still has pain meds in his system he may not feel any injuries so be careful!!
