Happy Australia Day to all our wonderful members on the warm side of the globe! ![]()
From me too ![]()
Gosh! Let me to be the first of MANY to say THANKS!
Could one of you tell me what this thing is? ![]()
I don’t really know, ZS. Our priest in church today wished us all a Happy Australia Day and I looked it up just long enough to see it was a real event. But I didn’t have time to read up on it. Then, after I sent out the note and told my hubby about it he informed me it’s already tomorrow over there and so I was late in my wishes. Oh well!!
Lol ZS – It’s our day celebrating the arrival of the first fleet to our country (day off work – woo hoo!). We all gather, bbq, drink way too much, have dunny races, cockroach races, get sunburnt, dress up in anything and everything green and gold or our flag, swim on oversized blow up thongs and just act like the larrikins we have become famous for, ha ha ha hah!
‘Our’ Hugh Jackman (actor) even got New York to recognize our day in America by turning it’s famous building ‘green & gold’ – good on you America!
Happy Autralia Day to all Australians! It seems like a terrific Day! We’ve nothing like it. We’ve a national day in June but nobody remembers why, it’s to do with the constitution from 1809. It’s only been a holiday since 2005.
Our public National Day-celebrations have no elements of any Swedish traditions because that would be considered racist. I think we are the only country in the world where the people mustn’t ever so much as hint at any form of patriotism or love for their country.
Sadly Bam it isn’t ALL happy celebrations here – I’m surprised the world didn’t hear about the riot we endured a few years back all over racism. Ridiculous! We should be celebrating our ‘lucky’ country and everything that make us unique from the rest of the world. Some people might hide their heads in shame about some of our behaviour – toad races (ha ha), but I embrace it! Who else calls a pair of togs ‘budgie smugglers’ (LOL). Gee Bam, I so hope we don’t end up like your country one day, that is so sad that you can’t celebrate everything Sweden.
Racism is of course ugly and terrible and can’t be excused. But loving one’s country doesn’t mean you’re a racist. There is a wild confusion over this in Sweden. Some people see any utterance of sth even remotely like patriotism as getting a Nazi flag waved in their faces.
Budgie-smugglers is one of the funniest words I’ve ever come across. It’s so very accurate =)
Shaking my head – I thought we were all past that? I watched a doc about a new movie (Australian) how a nun and a nurse endured/survived the war with Japan and the story was horrific! Guess what? They went back to Japan (how brave, and to be so old now) and the new generation apologised and all was forgiven.
My goodness – what does this say about me (and who cares?) one side of my family is from the convicts that were shipped here and the other from Europe (Germany apparently?). I’m a full on Aussie! My hubby – his family settled here from Spain when he was 7 (yep – wog! lol!) and he reckons he is more Australian than me cause he ‘CHOSE’ to be here as to my being born here – go figure?
I’m sure I used the word earlier – ridiculous!
Sorry MB for hijacking your well wishes for Australia day – It is truly appreciated (tell hubby a day late – that’s all ok, it’s the thought that counts!). Big smile! (I gotta learn/work out how to use those emoticons?).
I’m getting a lot of mileage out of Aust. Day. I work w/ an Aussie. her daughter is adorable and when the little girl visited our building someone said, “Oh, listen! She has that Australian accent too!”
Pretty funny
In re to the emoticons, it seems you cannot use them if you use quick reply, but if you hit that green reply button just below the last entry, you will see all the faces on the right hand side. Just tap a face and it will go where your cursor is
I want to learn how to put pictures on. Have to corner my other half about this technical problem.
Ok here goes…. ![]()
I ended up clicking on the edit button? Ha ha ha – it worked….
Yes – when you work out how to post pic’s on the forums you’ll have to teach me that too! Lol… Cheers MB.
Haha. Well done! This is my favorite, though fortunately I haven’t used it much
You’ll be the first to know when I figure out the pics!
Happy very late Australia Day all of our Aussie friends here on the forums! (Don’t live in Australia, but just wanted to put that out there. Since Megabunny did!)
OK AndHenry. Here’s Gus. This picture downloading would be really involved to try and explain. Basically have to click the attachment section at the bottom here, browse for the picture you want, upload it (green arrow in box), then insert image…I think. My husband mostly did it. Sorry.
Gus by the fireplace
Thanks everybody! MB – Gus is super adorable ![]()
Aw thanks. I’ve been wanting to get his picture out there for months. I’ll never get the hang of this tech stuff. :-). Had a friend from work (4th grade teacher) over for dinner the other night and she’s the first one who ever asked to hold him. She made BIG points!
Love MY bunny and I’ll love you! ha ha hah….
PS – I just heard on the news, next Australia Day (2015) not only are they gonna light up the Empire State Building in ‘green and gold’ again, they are also gonna try and hold a ‘singlet and thong’ party in Central Park to celebrate! How funny/cool is that! ha ha hah!
You Aussies are a wild group. Cane toad races are bad enough, but parties featuring singlets and thongs? Hope those are the thongs as in sandals
Oh, ha ha ha ha ha – YES! Thongs on your FEET!
Edit/Add – 10 minutes later, still laughing! ![]()
Phew!
![]()
Okay…that was just hilarious……
Sorry for the delayed response but thank you everyone ![]()
Ha ha. I’ll try not to hold it against you if you tell the kangaroos I said hi. I don’t think AndHenry did. LOL
I promise you Megabunny – I did/do!
I take my ‘saying HI to the kangaroo’s from Megabunny’ duties quite seriously thank you!
Ha ha ha hah…..
Well OK then, AndHenry. I’ll let you off the hook![]()
