Hello everyone, My name is Alec and I live in Houston, Texas. I decided to join this forum to learn more about house rabbits and share my own experience with owning one. I have one rabbit named Misty that is a female Dwarf Hotot/Red Eyed White Hybrid, which I’m quite sure is very uncommon. I adopted her in March of 2011 from a local rescue called CAPS when she was 6 months old, and had her spayed about a year ago, as they didn’t do it before I adopted her. She lives in my bedroom and has free roam of it up to several hours a day. I’ve rabbit proofed it well by putting all electrical cords out of reach, so it’s a safe environment for her.
She has a very comical personality. She’s very affectionate and bonded to me, as she will groom my forehead, nose and cheeks, but she also has a bossy side. She will throw things out of her way, and very roughly nudge your legs, feet, arms, or hands if they are in her way, and lightly nip you if you ignore her first warning. If she doesn’t want you to pick her up, she will run away before you can even touch her, or squirm when you get your hands on her(I let go when this happens).
She also will chew on things she isn’t supposed to to get my attention, and run away all excited when she’s scolded. She often jumps in the air if I scratch the carpet with my fingers; for some reason it excites her. All in all she’s a great pet to have, and has taught me a lot about responsibility and how to care for animals.
I feed her fresh timothy hay everyday, a good amount of pellets, romaine lettuce, parsley/cilantro(when I have it in supply, as it goes bad quickly), and also I make sure she always has fresh water and a clean litterbox. I keep a few wicker toys around for her, which she enjoys a lot. Once in awhile I feed her carrots as treats, but I stopped feeding her any packaged treats as I’ve done extensive research and found out how unhealthy they are.
