Hi! I’m from Ohio, and I’m getting a Holland Lop around Labor Day. I don’t have a bunny yet, but I’m counting on getting more in the future. Both of my parents said “I’m all for it” yesterday because I am responsible for my bird (Nuuki) You can see more of me in my bio and my status/journal updates. I look forward to over-using this smiley- Okay, see you around, I’ll be shopping online and looking for safe cage ideas (we’re probably building out own, the bunny is going to be outdoors) for She/he (I’ll be calling Future Bunny “She/he” and “it” a lot). I’ll also be poking around the forums and exploring. Feel free to give me ideas, I love constructive critisicm! (I think I spelled that right )

          Hi there

Getting a bunny is exciting, isn’t it? It is a big learning time and fun.

Have you considered keeping bunny indoor? From what I heard, the weather in Ohio can be really rough. You can look at the galleries up top and at the housing that people have made

            Welcome.

I have to echo LoveChaCha’s concerns: The weather in Ohio is very rough. Summers are too hot for a rabbit to live comfortably outside and the winters are too cold. Please consider keeping your rabbit inside the house full-time, they make fantastic house pets with the proper habitat and care. If you’re unable to keep your bunny inside all the time, please consider NOT getting one until some point in the future when you are on your own and can make the decision for yourself.

I agree with you guys, I fully intend to keep him in my room. It will have an “Outside Home” for it to lounge in for the day, but there will definately be a cage in my room. It’ll be out in our bunny-proof rooms for most of the day. I do share your concerns. Don’t worry, it’ll still be comfortable.

                Welcome!

I agree, but since you say you are going to keep him in cage in your room. Why bother with an outside home? If you want him to spend time outside, you should just get a x-pen, and make it part of your bonding time.

I tried letting my indoor bunny Gabby have outdoor time and it terrified her. Between the smells and the sounds she was restless and didn’t seem to enjoy it. I tried it a couple of times but gave up since she didn’t seem to have any fun.

                      Hi!
Yes, please make sure to keep it indoors only. I am concerned because in your first post, you said it was an outdoor rabbit. It’s very important that rabbits are kept inside now, not only because of the weather (which is dangerous in itself) but because of any predators and especially because rabbits are very social. While some rabbits do prefer to be alone (I’m beginning to think one of my rabbits is better off as a solo bun) it’s natural for them to group together. Any animal that naturally hangs out together will not be happy alone. Please do reconsider getting a rabbit if you can’t make the necessary arrangement for it.
If you are going to keep the rabbit inside, well you’ve come to the right place! There probably isn’t a more knowledgeable group of people around. I’ve learned tons just by looking at the forum topics and reading responses. It will help get you ready for when you do get a rabbit and give you some idea of vet costs, food costs, cage costs, etc! Of course, everyone is very helpful and nice here, so be sure to ask questions!  Do check out the habitat section because some of the cages are amazing! Many are cheap too! I have two xpens for my rabbits and while I like them because I can take them with me, I am sooooo envious of the C&C cages (cubes that usually are used for bookshelves).
