a while back i remember posting about one of my local parks. i looove this park… been going there since i was a toddler, my dad’s memorial tree is now there, i go there often to exercise and usually have a family picnic or 2 there per year. and there are animals there in a zoo-type environment including bunnies.
on friday i was there to visit dad’s memorial and of course stopped by the bunnies. one of them looked like it had snuffles
it was a rew but had dirt caked under it’s wee nose. well, i’ve long meant to find out more info about how the buns are cared for and now this poor bun finally gave me the kick in the pants i needed to investigate.
i spoke to the manager in charge of all the animals who was really really kind to speak with. he wasn’t dismissive like i had feared and he he actually has a house rabbit too! i told him that i frequented the park and that i’m not a rabbit expert, but am an enthusiast (i didn’t want to sound like a know-it-all) and that i was concerned about the wee rew. he told me he would look into it right away
they have a vet who tends to all the animals year-round.
i signed up to be a volunteer there too
i want to find out a bit more about their care… like why they do not seem to spay / neuter. there are wee baby buns – soooooo sweet & obviously a crowd fav – but with all the buns running loose i wonder how they prevent multiple pregnancies. anyways… here’s a pic of the rabbit area:
