        Hi Everyone.

We’ve had our bunny for 4 years.  He was about 1 year old when we adopted him.  I have worked from home for the entire time that we have had him but now may need to start working outside the home full time.  My husband and I are wondering whether we should get our bunny a friend so he doesn’t get lonely during the day.  Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated!

        Thanks!

It is generally always recommended for rabbits to have a bonded partner so they have companionship, so yes, that’d be a great idea– however, it is not as simple as getting a second rabbit and putting them together. As long as both you and your husband are on board, you would need to review what is needed to properly bond two rabbits, while also knowing there is not guarantee any two rabbits will get along. Here are some basics to get you started: https://binkybunny.com/infocategory/bonding/

If the process of bonding is not realistic at this time, I’d focus on spending resources to maximize pen space and engagement, and also just remember rabbits tend to be sleeping during working business hours anyways, so it will not be hours of loneliness necessarily!

Agree with Wick & Fable! Having a bonded companion would be great for your bun, it just takes some time and patience (sometimes a lot of time and patience lol). If your bun isn’t neutered that should be your first step. If there is a rescue in your area they may be able to help you find a good match for him. Many rescues will let you take your bun in for some speed dates to help find a compatible bun. Usually male-female pairs are the easiest and most stable bonds (when both are neutered/spayed). Age and breed do not matter though.
