        Hi Everyone,

My bun Rocket has been having antibiotics and probiotics with a syringe for two weeks now. He has itchy watery eyes, which the antibiotics have helped but not stopped it from happening so we think he might be having a allergy to something. So after seeing the vet again today she has prescribed him some antihistamines which are a tablet. I saw a video where you could crush the tablet, add some banana and water and then syringe feed it. Rocket was great having the probiotics in the syringe because it was quite watery and he could lap it up. The banana in the syringe he did not want any of it. So I was thinking of making it more watery with a bit of flavour. Does anyone know if you can add honey, apple or grape juice to water? Or an easier way to give him his tablets?

        Thank you!

I think you can mix the crushed tablet with just about anything he likes. If you use honey, only use a little because it’s so sugary. Buns often like baby fruit smoothie/or purée. Pear and blueberry are my bun’s favorites. Antihistamines have a very bitter taste though, so it’s probably difficult to disguise the taste completely.

If none of that works, you may have to force feed him using a syringe, but give him a small piece of treat or some pellets right after to seek for forgiveness lol.

I had to administer a tablet form medication to my bun recently but even after crushing and mixing it with his favourite pellet mash, he refused to eat it because he could actually sniff out the crushed tablet among the mash. In the end we had to crush it in water instead and force feed him with a syringe.

Our vet recommended putting the tablet (antibiotic) into a raisin which has worked amazingly well. She rushes to me for it.
Good luck – I know it’s hard forcing it down!
