Hello. I’m new here and am hoping to find some answers .
I have a English mini Rex who just went through a bout of GI stasis. By the time the vet seen him, he was in full blown stasis. They kept him to aggressively treat him and once they got him a bit better they sent him home to us with a bunch of Meds:
Simethicone
Metacam
Metoclopramide
Enrofloxian
Pro bi
And also critical care for feedings
We followed the instructions given for providing care and getting passed this. 4 days later, I took him back to the vet because he wasn’t pooping or eating on his own. Another X-ray was done and showed that the gas was almost gone and we we’re on a road to recovery and instructed to continue the Meds and feedings until he was eating on his own.
Pooping finally resumed on day 7, but still not eating on his own to sustain him.
We are on day 10 and he still won’t eat that much. He has started to eat a little hay, and very little greens. By very little I mean there equiviliant of the size of a leaf of spinach. Not enough and he will not eat any pellets. Although he is pooping a little, it’s no where near what he would normally poop. Everyday it seems to be more.
Today I tried to get him to eat a little pumpkin and he did eat a lite of that.
Can anyone provide me some additional suggestions or does it take a long time for normalcy return? How long did it take your Bun to start eating on his own.
As far as his activity, it’s up and down. He has days that he’s back to pre-stasis and then he has lazy days where he don’t want to play much at all. Typically he has full run of the house for about 5 plus hours on weekdays and on weekends, he has it as long as we are home.
