› FORUM › THE LOUNGE › Getting a new bunny- English Lop
I have been out of town the past couple of days visiting my Mother and Grandmother. My Mom wanted to go to the County Fair last night after my Grandmothers night nurse arrived. I was really not looking for a 3rd bunny at all- but I saw this litter and fell in love (you know when you get that feeling that “this could be the one that belongs with you”).
We went late last night- after 10pm (which must be late for a weekday) and I was oohing and aahing over the English Lop bunnies- I had not even gotten as far as the babies cage yet- and a girl heard me telling my Mom about them and she showed me her friends litter. And I thought about it overnight….and stopped back there today to talk to the breeder. So this is not an impuise buy- I did have time to think about it- and they are so sweet and mellow. And I was able to get a boy which I think will work better in our household- and he will be neutered when he is old enough.
I put a deposit down on him but he can not go home yet so I will go back in about a week and a half to get him. I was impressed with the breeder- they take good care of their bunnies- and one of their male English Lops won Grand Champion of all the bunnies in the fair- so they are breeding for the right reasons. The bunnies are handled a lot by the kids in the family so they are well socialized.
Now I have to think of some possible names…. On the drive back home today of 4 1/2 hours I had plenty of time to think about it and am considering Griffon, Aristotle (Ari), Jynx, Marley, or Tristan and am still trying to come up with other possible names.

SOOOO CUTE!!!!!!!! I am jealous! I like your list of names!
An English Lop is my “Dream Bunny”- and when I saw how absolutely sweet and lovey her adult bunnies were I was hooked. I was able to pet the father and he was super sweet and charming- he even tooth purred when I petted him.
You are going to love this FrenchLop. Especially since he has been handled since birth. Lucky you
I swear I will have one someday! Tooth purrs for a stranger is quite charming!
How exciting! Congrats on the new little one! They are so precious!
Congrats! I know how there’s the dream rabbit when it comes to looks or size (and always personality!). If a rabbit has those things it’s just too good to be true! Nova was that perfect dwarf/chocolate spotted rabbit, but she doesn’t have that wonderful personality if a rabbit loved by people from birth. Though I think that maybe I have a soft spot for dwarf rabbits in general as I would love to steal Lintini’s bunny…
Hehe *holds Bun tight* I fell in love with her when I saw her! I would love to get a lop someday. Gosh bunny’s are just the cutest things ever. I cant resist them at all. And KytKattin your rabbits are adorable as well, I love your siggy. As I said in a post before, I am totally addicted now!

They are only pretending to be adorable…
Hubble is actually just grooming his own face while Nova is begging for any sort of attention (Hubble doesn’t know she exists). Though Nova is a Polish, and Hubble is a mix so maybe I’ll have to get myself a ‘real’ dwarf some time… Or maybe i’ll get a bigger mixed breed rabbit that is actually affectionate and not as snobbish as my two and most dwarf rabbits I’ve met. Haha.
Knock me over with a feather. Congratulations Julie!
“Only spayed and neutered” she said.
“No more bunny hormones” she said.
ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!! ;o)
I’m just kidding around with you! Congrats Julie! It goes without saying that they are so precious! That’s a BIG PILE of bunny love right there! Which one is yours in the pic?
Griffon- I don’t like this too much. It makes me think of Family Guy, Peter Griffen is a big, bumbling idiot.
Tristan- I like this name… I think he needs something delicate.
Do they have “normal” lop fur, it looks more silky in that pic, or is that “baby fur”?
Congratulations, Julie!!!
Beka – LOL
My favorite is the “I took time to think about it, so it wasn’t an impulse decision. Um, let’s see…10PM to…what…6AM?” (*Julie bangs on breeder’s door “Let me have him NOW!”*)
They all look beautiful. Which one?
Oh my goodness. I’m so jealous! And I love all of your name choices 🙂
I don’t think I could be anymore jealous right know!!!! An English Lop is my dream bun, so I’m turning queit green with envy!!!!! I already have my named picked out for mine…Mr Bo Jangles!!!!!!!
Pretty! Is your going to be broken or all one color?
He is the one in the middle of the picture- and he is solid. I had just finished holding him and he crawled back into the “bunny pile” so I knew which one he was.
There are 3 blue torts in the litter- the other 2 are female. And there is one black tort in the litter- (looks more orangy colored) There are 4 broken patterned in the litter- and there was one male available in the broken also- but when I held him he was a bit squirmy. I had thought that I wanted a broken patterned- but the solid blue tort stole my heart. I went with my gut feeling on which to choose. And when she showed me the father- Soda Pop who loves to be petted even by strangers- and he is a solid blue tort (absolutely gorgeous) that confirmed my choosing the solid.
The blue fawn coloring looks soft and velvety- but the hair coat seemed similiar to other lops except maybe on the face/nose it seemed maybe a little shorter. But my Lops don’t have much of a nose to compare to.
My Mom lives about 4 1/2 hours away- so I am making another trip up to get the bunny and to see her and my Grandmother who has end stage cancer. So the trip back to get him works out well- I will get to visit my Mom again soon and she is happy about that.
After I saw the bunnies that night I kept thinking about them- so I talked to my husband before I went back to see the owner and he was OK with me picking out a bunny. He knows how much I adore English Lops. And that fact that I slept on it and was still thought it was a good idea in the morning means it was just not excitement and a cute bunny face that solely made the decision for me. I made a joke previously about needing a bunny hotline to call if you thinking about getting a new bunny so someone can “talk you down”- I think waiting overnight and still seeing what your gut feeling is will tell you a lot.
Awww!!! I’m so jealous. Congrats. I like Tristan. If he was a girl I would suggest Velvet becouse he looks really soft.
So yours is the solid fawn with the lilac tinging around the face and ears?
I’m in love! Congrats. No, you didn’t make this decision on a whim — when picking a new pet, a few hours are eternity! ![]()
I love the solid ones myself. I think once you spend time with him too a name will come.
Katnip, I liked Marley. I just always like that name…
I think he’s the cutest… lol!
English Lops are absolutely adorable! Like Bunny Bassethounds. There have been a few that have come through SaveABunny when I was volunteering there. One E.lop kept having so much trouble with running and playing because of his very long ears so the people at the rescue put them back with a soft little scrunchy during playtime – as goofy as that sounded, he wasn’t bothered by it and they said he was much more active. Not sure if you’ll need the “scrunchy” tip or not, but I thought I’d share for future reference.
Regarding a name, I ditto Sarita – I bet once he’s home with you and you can see more of his personality, it’ll come to you.
Congratulations!
I love English Lops sp wish I could squeeze one into my house lol
Yeah- I always spend a little time with them before I end up choosing a final name- and it is usually a couple of days before I can finalize.
I can’t wait to go back and get him! I bet he will have grown so much even in the 10 or so days.
I was holding my baby and the breeder asked if I saw the 10 week old bucks- and I said no. Turns out I had seen them- I had seen them first but I had no idea they were only 10 weeks old- I thought they were older.
Love the Baby Bunny Pile!
BB – awesome “scrunchy” tip!
KatnipCrzy – congrats! He is beautiful. I’m sure he will bring much happiness – and poops – to your home!
Congrats, you lucky little bugger!!!!! They are so cute. I would love an English lop!!!
I love the name Tristan. It’s actually one of my fave male names (for bun or person).
