try a door!

As I mentioned in a couple of other threads, Pepper has free run of my condo – EXCEPT the sewing/computer/rehearsal room. Just too many wires/pins/foot pedals/adhesives/etc to ever be truly bunnyproofed.
At my old place I made a gate from NIC grids, and after 3 defeats finally managed to come up with a locking mechanism that she couldn’t get loose. But now that it’s MY place I can install something more permanent.
Someone posted a set of bifold closet doors on CraigsList. The tops were louvered with slats but the bottoms were solid. So I responded, and hauled a single door home with me on the bus – THAT was interesting. Then I sawed the top part off (and used the slats to make planters but that’s another story) leaving me with the solid bottoms. I got a pair of regular door hinges at the hardware store and mounted this in the doorframe. It’s set in sucgh a way that should I wish I could still close the actual door of the room, but pretty much all the time I leave it open for airflow and just close these things.
So far I’ve not bothered with a latch, as I installed them a little too close to the floor (see the scrape marks) but eventually I’ll probably add a simple hook clasp. Since the bottom is solid, most of the time it doesn’t even register with Pepper that there is a room there – she totally ignores it. But with the top open I get airflow into the hallway, as that room gets a bit warm sometimes.
