› FORUM › THE LOUNGE › Gamers, band geeks, trekkies, etc… What kind of nerd are you?
Several recent chats have revealed the BBers are a rather nerdy geeky lot! Have you seen every episode of Star Trek? Do you know that the meaning of life is 42? Have you missed work or school because you were so engrossed in a video game? Do you remember that summer at band camp? What do you like to geek out on? And just for fun, why do you think we’re all a bunch of nerds?
I think being nerds makes us more open to slightly less traditional pets. Plus the crazy amount of research that goes into providing for a pet that’s sometimes a little bit more complicated and a bit less well understood goes along with our obsessive geekery. I suppose by default of being bunny people on an internet forum we also are by definition are least sort of tech savy and likelier to be nerdy than the average person. Plus, bunnies just make you smarter! ![]()
Hello my name is Lauren, and I am an obsessive nerd. I love science fiction; name a book, tv show or movie (even if it was on well before I was alive) and I’ve probably seen or read it or both and it’s probably on my bookshelf or dvd shelf. I have an X-Files “I Want to Believe” poster hanging over my desk, I quote Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy pretty constantly. I own every Monty Python movie plus the Flying Circus box set as well as a few TV shows, mini series’, and movies made by Pythons before and after Flying Circus. I’ve seen Spamalot twice. My collection of movies from the 40s and 50s could fill a library. I have three rather large books shelves and I still have boxes of books in my closet, and I’ve read all of them. I love Buffy, Angel and Xena (I am a nerd child of the 90s, lol). I’m also a music nerd, I could listen to my itunes library for a month and a half and never hear the same song twice. In high school, I went to band camps. Every summer.![]()
I’m a reading nerd, LOL. I read 50 books in January and February of this year
Then my Kindle died and I haven’t replaced it yet
I read just about everything, but I really like Horror Fiction and YA ![]()
Hi fellow nerd!
I’m more of a science and math geek than anything – I am an engineer after all – though my mental math ability is very sad. I love reading about astrophysics, watching shows on the Discovery channel, etc. I’ve had the internet since about 1990 because my dad was always into tech stuff as well. Now I make computer chips for a living! Actually, my manufacturing facility makes all of the chips for Playstation, Xbox, and Wii (and now we’re working on Nintendo’s new gaming system). Unfortunately I don’t get a discount on any of them 😛
My favorite books are 19th century Brit lit, which I guess is pretty nerdy. I’ve read almost all of Dickens (just a couple more books to go), have the complete Jane Austen collection, and am starting to work on Hardy (there are some other authors in there too). I do read other things in between, but I always go back to my 19th century lit.
I’m not too into video games – I’m terrible at them, so it makes me want to play them less. DH plays Halo all weekend lately (used to be Call of Duty, now back to Halo). I usually play the campaigns with him, but refuse to play online because everybody is so much better than me. Haha. I do enjoy games more at my level, like Zelda, or GTA. Red Dead Redeption was one of the best games I’ve ever played – I love sandbox games where you can run around and do whatever you want, rather than having to fight people all the time (I’m always the one that ends up “collecting” things in these games, while DH handles the tricky parts involving tons of bad guys).
I definitely agree that being on this site and doing endless research on our “alternative” pets is probably why so many of us are linked in geekdom. Geeks do tend to love researching things! I know I’ll get on a kick and research the heck out of a topic for a week or two, then drop it and find something else. This makes me good at my other love – trivia games! I love pub trivia (actually did it at our wedding), watch Jeopardy every night, and play Trivial Pursuit often. I just love random facts.
Hello, fellow nerds, my name is Lizzie…
(Hello, Lizzie…)
I grew up playing console and computer games with my brother and, later, my husband Stan. Favorites include Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy VII, Zelda: Link to the Past, Zelda: Twilight Princess, Diablo, Diablo II, The Elder Scrolls III (Morrowind), The Elder Scrolls IV (Oblivion), World of Warcraft, Fable, Fable II, Fallout III, Bioshock, Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age II, and Wii games such as Warioware: Smooth Moves, Wii Sports, Wii Fit, and the old, hilarious version of Bomberman.
We don’t have cable, but do we rock Netflix very often. Shows include such nerd favorites as Monty Python’s Flying Circus, Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law, Space Ghost: Coast to Coast, M.A.S.H., Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, Buffy, the 4400, Good Eats, and I also watch live casting of Starcraft 2 tournaments with Stan… yep, I said it.
Some nerdy movie favorites include Coraline, Hellboy, Hellboy 2, Harvey, Avatar, Lord of the Rings, Galaxy Quest, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Harry Potter, various Marx Bros. favorites, Princess Mononoke, House of Flying Daggers, Star Trek, District 9, CowBoy Bebop (the movie), Star Wars, Blade Runner, Kung Fu Hustle, and so many more (including many cool films, but this is not the place for them).
As for books, I’ve read every single Discworld novel that Terry Pratchett has written (thus far… 32 or 33 I think), Anansi Boys, American Gods, Coraline, Mythago Wood and all subsequent sequels, the Southern Vampire Chronicles, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, A Game of Thrones, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, I, Robot, Eragon, Eldest, and Brisingr, Old Man’s War, The Shining, Dune, tons of H.P. Lovecraft, the Hitchhiker’s Guide and all sequels, the Neanderthal Parallax, Ender’s Game, the Wheels of Time series, the Hobbit, Interview with a Vampire, the Last Unicorn, I Am Legend… and many extremely cool books under the “19th Century English Novel” category because that’s what I studied all through college and I love it. But those aren’t necessarily “nerdy” anymore because everyone knows they’re awesome! I also love Shakespeare ![]()
Music: I love the Gotan Project (basically techno/tango music), The Beatles, the Seatbelts (who have done many anime soundtracks, including Cowboy Bebop), Moby, Flight of the Conchords, Orbital, BT, traditional Irish music, many classic composers, many operas (favorites being the Magic Flute and Don Giovanni), tons of jazz, and my favorite band Beirut. I also listen to videogame soundtracks. They have come *so* far.
I grew up with music, singing and playing the piano. I was going to be an opera singer, and even went to a music conservatory my first year of college before transferring to literary analysis. My brother has his own jazz band, and my dad and his twin used to play their banjos and sing all over New Orleans when they were in college. My mom got me into opera and classical music.
I also read webcomics, such as Questionable Content, Sinfest, Nerf This, Married to the Sea, and many others.
I knit and make my own jewelry and write fiction for fun.
I have edited this darn post three times because I keep thinking of more nerdy things that I do.
I’m gonna go play computer games.
I never forget my towel.
I’m not sure if I qualify to be a gamer geek since I suck at a ton of the games I play. I tend to like RPG games like Golden Sun and Chrono Trigger (which I sucked at because enemies just kept hitting me while I was thinking what to do). I’ve played Diablo II, World of Warcraft, and Maple Story. I love Dragon Age a ton. I need to stop making goody two shoes characters on Dragon Age though. I used to watch Starcraft 2 games live with my ex. He thought because I’m korean I’d have some special starcraft skills. Haaaaah, right.
I play viola and was quite involved in orchestra and small chamber groups for some time. People called me an “orchedork”.
Lizzie, Alliance or Horde? ![]()
i play d&d, vampire, mage, and rifts. i stay away from computer/video games because of my addictive personality (seriously, i can’t even play fb games!). i love scifi shows and movies, but i prefer fantasy or historic fiction novels. some of my favorite authors are martin, anne bishop, robert jordan (and i think sanderson is doing a decent job finishing up!), pierce anthony, jacqueline carey…. i could go on! the first fantasy i ever read was brook’s “elfstones of shannara”, when i was 7. i’m currently re-reading george r r matin’s “song of ice and fire” series in preparation for the release of the fifth book. i knit. i even knit a cover for my nook color. i mean, seriously, does it get any dorkier than that?! my three year old sleeps with her cthulhu doll every night, and has shirts that say “come to the dark side, we have cookies. -v”, and “self rescuing princess”. she’s an expert at dice rolling, and is already helping her daddy play magic the gathering. she loves to sit in his lap while he’s playing ddo, eve, or whatever his most recent obsession is. my dog’s name is river. my ferrets were vash, knives, and rem. my rats are lock, shock, and barrel (jack died in january). i know the answer, but still haven’t figured out the question.
Man, I’ve tried playing D&D with some friends. When I rolled for character stats, it was so bad that the game master assigned me some better ones. It took us 5 hours to get through one quest. We never even finished playing.
That’s it, I’m getting a Cthulhu doll…
I play both Alliance and Horde! I never understood the whole “pick one and despise the other” nonsense. They’re both fun and have different things to offer ; )
I mostly played Horde. My ex was horde so that’s why. He unfortunately plays on a PVP server, which I hated so much. It’s okay now that I don’t get killed ALL the time, only most of the time, lol. I never really hated Alliance, just got scared when one was around.
On our server, Horde so outnumbered Alliance that I never had to worry when I played Horde.
When I played Alliance, however…
I’ve been playing games since I was 5…
I’m an old school gamer and I’m really picky about what I play ![]()
I love Star Wars too mehehee
Ooh, what old school games do you play?
I like Sierra adventure games like Quest for Glory and King’s Quest.
Lizzie- I think my server was pretty even (but I’m judging by how many alliance and horde were at dalaran before cataclysm).
aw, I used to play those too!!
Wow, that brings me back…
Lizzy, you have to give me recs for 19th century lit that you like! That’s my favorite genre (I guess you can call it a genre?) and that’s so cool that you studied it.
I thought of another thing I’m nerdy about. In college we got to take 6 extra classes (outside of engineering, math, and science classes needed to graduate). I ended up taking Old English, Welsh, and History of English to 1300. I loooooove old British languages, especially anything that’s almost a dead language (I still need to figure out some Irish). I just wish I could remember more of it. I love linguistic things and the history of language. I even learned a lot about Tolkien’s made up languages because the subject is so interesting to me.
I am an all around nerd / geek / spaz lol.
I am a bigger nerd in books and math than anything else. If it can be read or turned into a mathematical equation I love it and just lose myself in it.
Movies I think my dvd/vhs collection last time I checked was somewhere in the 6,000 range. I know the most random things about movies. If I like a movie I will watch it so many times that I can recite the entire script lol.
I love games don’t care what kind who made them just gimmie gimmie gimmie. I am big into WoW, Bioshock, Halo and COD right now but I have games and game systems that date from way before I was born. My favorite is still the atari it always has been and always will be.
I also write fiction novels and short stories I don’t really let people read them but I have written over 30 full length novels and thousands of short stories.
If it can be geeked up I am sure to do it lol.
I’m a gamer girl. My hubby is more of a geek than I am. He’s a movie geek, music hoarder, and more of a gamer geek than I am
And he has a first edition Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. Plus the other books too! lol. And he still has his original Commodore 64.
I play some MMOS, WoW and Rift mostly. More rift than WoW lately. I play RPGs too, these days its Dragon Age
I met my hubby playing Counter Strike lol. So I play FPS games too. Various genres on the xbox, but FPS games stay on the PC. Aiming with a controller sucks. Mouse ftw!
Sonn, I’m with you ont he writing. When I was 12, I wrote a 300 page book that I didn’t let anyone read
I still have it somewhere… my mom has read many of my short stories and says I can out write JK Rowling, so why don’t I, and make her some money. loL!
I… am an all around nerd hahaha. I love star trek [never got to watch the original but I watched deep space nine, next generation, etc]. Always loved to read and my bookshelf is currently looking like it’s about to collapse from the weight of everything. LOVE video games–god of war is my all time favorite series, and left 4 dead, along with call of duty and other first person shooters. I won’t let myself buy WoW because I already know it will seriously take over my life lol.
most of all.. I am a total fantasy geek. I watched xena and buffy religiously. I’m currently saving up so I can buy the complete buffy series collection hahaha. LOVE lord of the rings. hmm. I know there’s a bunch of other nerdy stuff I do… haha.
Angie, DH loooooves God of War! We don’t currently have a PS3, but he wants one just so he can get the new God of War (I guess blu-ray would be nice).
Has anybody played “Alan Wake”? We had to get a new Xbox (with a chip made at my plant!) in December since ours died, and it came with the game for free. It’s pretty cool! It’s fairly linear, and basically a Steven King novel come to life (not that I’ve read any Steven King). It’s pretty cool so far!
getting a ps3 was one of the best investments of my LIFE. haha. well, except for all the psn crap going on right now….
but it is a great entertainment system. blu ray player, netflix compatible, and obviously GOW III hehe. trust, he will not be disappointed!
Sony. Bleh. My hubby hates Sony, and I agree with him
No PS3 for me!
Interesting stuff here. I have no clue about what most of you are talking about! I guess that makes me a nerd too. I have never played any of those computer games – ever! Even those old playstation and things from the 80’s – I grew up in the 80’s – you know MTV, Madonna, New Wave and Punk Rock.
I suppose it’s an age thing and that I have no children either so I have no clue.
I love Star Wars though….love love love it. Also Star Trek.
I love Sherlock Holmes and most mystery novels. I don’t read like I did when I was young though – I’ve gotten so lazy

We have the Xbox and Wii and we don’t have anymore room in our tv stand (unless we get rid of the dvr, because our cable sucks). So I told him he can’t get it! I’m sure he’ll get one eventually and justify it because we make the chip. Still, I hope he holds off for a while because there’s nothing we really want to play on there that isn’t available on Xbox, except for God of War (he played the first ones on PS2)
I’m thinking maybe I should just take a picture of my (mostly) old-school gaming stuffs. It takes up a whole room. Consoles, games, and collectibles. Amassed even more stuff from working for GameStop for 6 years =x
Off the top of my head, here are most of the gaming consoles and handhelds I still have: NES, Famicon, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, Sega CD, PSone, PS2, PS3, Wii, Gameboy Color, GameGear, Nintendo DS. Then some emulators. I feel like I’m forgetting stuff, but I’m not moving.
I’m tool lazy to go into detail about any of my nerdities right now, but I don’t realize how nerdy I am until I hang out with “regular” people and they don’t get my bad movie and game references. I seriously appreciate the guy I’ve been dating for being a bigger gaming/Japan/cartoon/comic/horror nerd than I am… he has the tattoos to prove it XD
But yeah… I love gaming (esp. old school), Hitchhiker’s Guide (I got all happy inside at the towel reference, Beka), Star Wars, bad movies (esp. horror, sci-fi/action, or just all around ridiculous), cartoons, Batman, themed events and conventions, etc. I am a functional nerd though! None of them take up a majority of my time. And I love a lot of comic book series and graphic novels, but I don’t read them often now. At least I could hold my ground on some knowledge. ![]()
Oh I am a big time nerd and proud of it. I love nerds so much I married one!
My husband and I are both anime fans, and gamers. We mostly play RPGs, and have PS3, 360, Wii, PSP, and Nintendo DS. (He used to work at gamestop and got good deals) He also has an impressive collection of old school and nostalgic gaming systems. We also spend our time playing pokemon together. We once even bought each other tamagotchis and raised them together.
I was a big time band geek in school. Played clarinet. I also read, write, draw, and knit. My husband is looking forward to his new accounting career.
Hey I set up my old Atari 400 a few months ago – had to get a new adapter for it (which actually we still haven’t put on) but the console itself works just fine! So now we’ve got it and the Xbox + Kinect together, lol.
I haven’t done a lot of gaming, although I have bought Fable II (but not played it yet). I’d be tempted by something like WOW except a) I’m not all that comfortable playing live with other people and b) I think the potential is there for it to end up costing way way too much money in the long run.
I’m definitely a trekkie, I don’t think there’s an episode or movie that I haven’t seen and that covers all the series (although I haven’t watched the cartoon). I even sewed TNG uniforms for myself and some friends one Halloween when I was university (I still have mine). Used to read a lot of sci-fi/fantasy, haven’t as much lately but I’d like to get back to it. Have never been to a con but think I’d like to someday.
For those geeks out there, especially the geekgirls, you might appreciate this blog:

Ooh, what old school games do you play?
I like Sierra adventure games like Quest for Glory and King’s Quest.
Lizzie- I think my server was pretty even (but I’m judging by how many alliance and horde were at dalaran before cataclysm).
SNES games. Secret of Mana… Tetris (well that was the first nintendo, right?), Super Mario, Earthbound (has anybody played this ridiculously insane game?).
I like a lot of RPG type of games.
Has anybody played Heavy Rain? ![]()
Scooter&Annette – I love Epbot. Same woman who runs Cake Wrecks with her husband <3
My favorite online store is ThinkGeek.com. I would spend all my money there if I could afford it! (Side note – Star Wars fans look up “Tauntaun sleeping bag,” “wampa rug,” and R2D2 trash cans!)
First let me introduce myself by saying…….. I had braces for 7 years….yup…7.
OK! got that out of the way!
BAND NERD QUEEN right here!
I love computer games, WoW, Rift, SWG, Diablo, CS, Tomb Raider, Age of Conan, Left4Dead etc etc!! Ohh and console games too! I’ll play pretty much everything ![]()
Elrohwen, I would be DELIGHTED to give you some of my 19th century faves : D
The obvious… Jane Austen. I wrote my thesis on her. Pride & Prejudice, Sense & Sensibility, Emma & Persuasion are my favorites of hers.
Then you got the Brontë sisters… Wuthering Heights, and Jane Eyre (which I think might actually be my favorite book ever, I’ve read it so many times). I have wood-block printed originals of both books!
I haven’t read much Dickens, because he drives me a little crazy… which might actually have helped to fuel my admiration of Evelyn Waugh (read A Handful of Dust and you’ll get the joke), but I did love Oliver Twist.
Other 19th c. favorites include Little Women, The Secret Garden, Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Père Goriot, and on and on and on….
I *highly* recommend Evelyn Waugh, even though he’s 20th c. He was an utterly brilliant English satirist whose works will have you laughing to the point of tears, even though many of them have an often disturbingly sinister feeling to them.
Isn’t funny how “nerd” used to be such a derogatory term and now it’s really not a bad thing!
I’m a total book and history nerd. I love reading and do lots of research on European history, my fave topic being Tudor England. Ask me anything!!! I have a giant fiction and non-fiction book collection. My books are very precious to me…I will never be an e-reader girl.
I guess I’m sort of a Star-Wars nerd too…not really by choice. My bf is a huge Star Wars and action figure nerd and our basement is pretty much a gigantic adult toystore. I really should post pics sometime…it’s quite insane. So living in this house with him I tend to know a lot about Star Wars. I can name even the most obscure character (what a talent to brag about!
). I have a lot of Ewoks stuff too.
I’m not into video games; we got a Wii for Christmas and I may have used it 3 times. I would rather read or do crafts.
Thanks Lizzie! I’ve actually read almost all of your suggestions except Evelyn Waugh – I’ll definitely get on that. His stuff sounds right up my alley!
Dickens drives me crazy too sometimes, but the more I read him the easier and more enjoyable it gets – he can be really funny when he’s not rambling on about boring things. Haha. I’m on “Old Curiosity Shop” right now and it’s ok. My favorite is probably Nicholas Nickleby, but Little Dorrit was great too. Oliver Twist was the first one I read and I loved it! I think I have two or three more to go.
I’m not crazy about the Bronte’s, but I haven’t read those books since high school so maybe I would like them more now? Not sure. I do want to see the new Jane Eyre movie though. For some reason their heroes always creep me out. lol
Austen is one of the best. I also have BBC movie version of most of her books – P&P and Emma are my favs by far. I’ve read the books multiple times and seen the movies just as many. Have you seen “Becoming Jane”? It’s actually a pretty cute movie about Austen’s life, even though it’s probably not accurate.
I actually haven’t read Hunchback either, though I have read Les Mis and enjoyed it. That was pretty much my only foray into 19th century French lit though. I’ll have to try some more.
Another favorite, which is 20th cent, is Maugham. I’ve read almost all of his stuff too. Of Human Bondage is fantastic. His books are short and easy to read too, which is nice compared to a lot of earlier stuff.
I need to read more Hardy – I didn’t like the first book I read by him, but I liked Tess recently so it might be time for another. I’m also back and forth on DH Lawrence, but have liked one of his books enough to get some more. Any suggestions on those two?
Love talking about nerdy literature!
Trekkie here. (using my new Netflix account to watch the entire series from the beginning…lol) X-files, CSI. I love the Harry Potter books and movies. Old British movies, travel shows, history, discovery, love studying programming, databases and building websites. Loves reading technical manuals.
I’ve tried the computer games but was way too slow to even get Mario over the first levels. Terrible cook, great at ordering in the drive through.
When my mom passed, I told my grandma “I want to live long.”
She said “Yes, live long and prosper.”

This has been the first game that has left me on the edge of my bed (I play games on my bed lol).
It is a REALLY well written game.. beautiful graphics.. amazing, messed up story ![]()
Im abit of a nerd mysef, sometimes i like playing abit of Poke’mon, i think of them as pets to me LOL
THats my inner geek , anyone like abita pokemon?
Oh, I forgot to mention…I do play nerd card games with my bf and his nerdy friends. They are mostly into “Magic”. Anyone ever heard of “Killer Bunnies”? It’s really cute and fun.
.
LittlePuffyTail, do u mean ‘killer bunnies’ as a card game? if yes it sounds cute! where can u buy them? can u order online? ![]()
Heheh I’ve heard of killer bunnies ![]()
Pokemon.. gotta catch ’em all
I love ghost types

And psychic

And ghost – dragon types

I am definitely a book nerd. I love classic literature and any type of poetry. Whenever I took AP English in high school, the teachers gave us this list of like 300 classic lit books that might be on the AP test. I’m working on buying and reading all of them heh. But I refuse to get an e-reader, must have real books. I have dreams of someday having a library like in Beauty and the Beast
I also love to write and have dreamed about someday publishing something since I was in first grade. Right now, I’m really into writing poetry. I went through a serious kids short stories phase so poetry has been a wonderful challenge.
Also, I am a huge band nerd!!! Marching band (and concert, symphonic and jazz band) were my life in high school. I played the flute in all of those groups and was Drum Major my senior year. I always wished I could’ve done DCI and actually tried to learn a brass instrument so I could but that was an epic fail. So I’m just addicted to watching other people march now.
I’m not so much of a gamer although I do love some old school NES. The only game I’ve ever been nerdy about is an old (as in, for DOS) RPG called Stonekeep. I actually recently found this game for Windows 7 on GOG and *freaked out* I’m now obsessed with beating the game again. Somehow, though, it seems infinitely more difficult than it did when I was young ![]()
Lani, I’m glad I am not the only one that is not going to get an eReader
Yay!!!!
I buy a lot of books off of amazon marketplace and I don’t have a lot of time to read.. so I’m going to squeeze it in ![]()
I forgot to mention..
I’m a Harry Potter fanatic ![]()
Lani, I think we have a lot in common! I’d love to hear some of your favorites – I love classic lit.
Who doesn’t love harry potter though?
My favorite pokemon are gengar, gyarados, alakazam, torterra, and of course, bulbasaur. One of my favorites from the new black/white would have to be darmanitan.
I love good old fashioned books made of paper. My hubby wants me to get an e-reader though, as my book collection is getting rather… large. >.> I read too fast, I buy a book and i read it in a couple hours. But I reread every book I buy, several times over the years.
When I buy a house, at least one room will have floor to ceiling shelves for my books, so I can enjoy them at will.

Oh man, my favorites vary so much depending on my mood
I always love Great Gatsby, Slaughterhouse Five, Catcher in the Rye, As I Lay Dying and The Sound and the Fury. By far my favorite poetry/prose is Leaves of Grass. I’m currently working on Sophie’s Choice although I put it down for a while so I might have to start over ![]()
What about you?
joyful – do you have a red gyarados? ![]()
BunnyMad- Most comic/gaming stores sell “Killer Bunnies”. There are 3 basic sets “The Quest for the Magic Carrot”, “The Journey to Jupiter” and “The Ultimate Oddessey. You can buy decks to add to make the games longer.
Here’s the official website: killerbunnies.com
herrmm… o _o
I’m an anime nerd and a video game geek. not as much as I used to be but I will still follow certain games such as Harvest Moon.
Lani, I listed far too many on page 2. lol. I love a lot of the ones you listed too! I have The Sound and the Fury on my shelf, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. I also love Steinbeck (East of Eden especially).
MB, I’m with you on creating a library once we have a house! Most houses around here have “formal” living rooms plus family rooms, so I’m definitely turning the living room into my library. Can’t wait.

I adore The Sound and the Fury. I know some people really just don’t like Faulkner and I admit, the first time I read As I Lay Dying I didn’t understand why it was supposed to be so fabulous. But the more I ws forced to read it for school the more I fell in love with his writing. I really want to get to his other works at some point.
I’ll definitely have to pick it up this summer! Sometimes I fall in love with difficult authors (like Dickens) and other times I don’t get it. Hopefully I end up liking it.
I think I need to pick up more Capote too. I’ve read a couple of his books (and his biography, which was awesome) and I really like his writing.
