I am so mad! Dexter and his dang cords! We got back from visiting family on Wednesday night so we are still getting back into our routine. One, In the mail today I got a letter from my new laptop rebate thing saying that they never got the reciept?! What the heck! I mailed it with everything else! Two, I tried to make a copy of the reciept, hmm won’t turn on. Pull the cord up…Dexter
Not just one, but 4!!!!! #1-3 in this post, #4 in the next…
Cord #1: Extension Cord (I shocked myself on it, still power running through it!)

Cord #2: Printer Power Cable (Now needing to be replaced!)

Cord #3: Printer USB Cable (Now needing to be replaced!)

Ok and #4, the doozy!
Cord #4: Power Cord to FLOOR LAMP! Now dead…

Notice the nice work on the tag too…

I pulled it up to find it had been completely severed!
Goodbye floor lamp!

I can’t believe you Dex!
They weren’t put there for his chewing pleasure?
Oh boy Dext-y!! Bad boy badd badd badd!!
Mommy is the one DISAPPROVING!!
Jeez…I just have to think Dex is lucky not to have killed himself on the extension.
Naughty bun! Type “T” personality, definitely. >.<
I know! I would imagine he at least gave himself a little jolt (eek!). So rotten!
naughty naughty bunbun! ![]()
Oi I dont’ want to be ‘mom’ but my friends bunny was electrocuted and passed from a run in with cords. Very dangerous.
We all experience them getting into cords we proofed -or thought we did, but just not well enough and I’m as guilty as anyone. My vacuum cord is as broken as what you pictured there to share (Please don’t be mad at me saying so, because as I said I’m on the bandwagon!!!!)
But if I can pass on the lesson Cocoa learned for all I will-cover all your cords now and consider yourself uber-lucky!!!
Almost all of my cords have electrical tape on them. And some of the tape has been chewed on. And I believe I’m on my 3rd laptop cord. lol And one of them chewed completely thru a phone charger cord but that’s pretty easy. lol
Bad Dexter! I’d be pissed off too. lol Could he have been acting out because of something?
Eddie used to start doing everything he knew not to do whenever he got pissy about something – chewing carpet, chewing cords. Heck, one time he got pissed off and actually chewed on the kitchen cabinets. He NEVER went into the kitchen either cause of the linoleum floor. He spent a lot of time in the pen during that period. Only thing that worked. lol
Looks like somebunny had a party while you were gone. ![]()

Lots of my stuff has been spliced too. Oh those little bunny teeth.
When Cotton was a wee young one I saw him dash out from behind the corner. The lamp had gone out too. I noticed he had scorch marks on his hair by his mouth. Do you know he went right back and started chewing on the same lamp cord!!!
Our place, in bunny-accessible spots, looks like a Borg ship. We use sump pump hose over the cords – just thread them right on through and make sure they’re covered right to the outlet. So far they haven’t managed to chew through it. Cut to required length.

When I saw your floor lamp cord – OMG. Dex is so lucky he didn’t kill himself, or set the place on fire!
We’ve lost a floor lamp the same way, although the cord wasn’t chewed all the way through. Several laptop cords, several mice, DVD player (or VCR can’t remember), cord for one of those heated massaging chair pads….

Oh those rexes. Trouble with a capital T…
Yes, definitely rabbit proof with cord protectors – they aren’t always 100% foolproof and can be chewed through but if you check them it give you the opportunity to know they are being chewed on.
OH wow! Bad Dexter
Must be something in the air because last night I heard a noise coming from their tunnel (which needs replaced because they chewed the floor all up) and I finally went to check on it. If I had waited any longer to check I would have lost a floor lamp too; not to mention Gracie might have been in for a “shock”! I guess Gracie had been working through the cord cover for some time and was starting to chew the rubber on the cord and exposed some wires. I have to put some electrical tape around it. We should look for that kind of cover too, the other kind seems to be chewable.
The cords were well covered and blocked off, but I don’t think the bunsitter supervised them as closly as we do while we are home. Had to ahve wiggled his fat little butt back there some how! I just ordered the replacement cords off ebay and didn’t notice that I had ordered them from HONG KONG! Whoops!
And that they wouldn’t be here until November 17th-December 1st! So I had to order more, from the US! At least they are cheap! Always good to ahve a back up set I suppose!
The bunnysitter! I guess her soft spot for rexy Dexy put him in harms way!
He just has those puppy dog eyes, and big spoony ears that make people melt!
And he is big. I find it hard to pen up a big rabbit too
I do like the photos of the deed though. Pretty amazing chewing work, very illustrative of a bunny’s work. I say Dexter has a guardian angel! Like my Mops trio did when they escaped their pen last year and spent an entire night hiding behind large appliances in my basement. I actually found Deirdra loafing with the live cord to my sump pump draped over her, she never even touched it! It was so unlikely, I still marvel at the fact.
My rabbit pen has since been upgraded to max. security.
Apparently rabbits think cords must be a type of vine… so severing them is the obvious thing ~
Yes, I feel bad locking him up since he is a bigger boy. Not that he is really energetic or anything but he just enjoys being out.
The appliances would have been gone if Dex had gotten to them! Just yesterday they got into a bag of trash and started eating candy wrappers! They just smelled too yummy I guess….
Yes it is the perfect texture for bunny teeth! Soft rubber and crunchy middle bits!

mrmac, have YOU tried electrical cords??
Ok, the trouble crew needs locking up if they are going to eat from the trash! Or the trash needs to be NIC’d.
They knocked a little trash can over! I don’t know how since it was in a wire cage top turned upside down (we use it as a basket of sorts).
No, I have not tried them, I can only imagine!
Trash cages usually keep them away… how did they get in?
Jumped into it. Too curious for their own good!
