Fur Mites!! Help!!!

I have two wonderful indoor bunnies, recently we got my rescue bunny spayed because she was displaying dominate behaviours that led me to believe she wasn’t spayed (though the rescue assured me she was…*eyeroll*). I think at the vet she somehow got exposed to fur mites because ever since she’s had a horrible infestation and I’ve had house bunnies for years and never ever havehad fur mites to deal with. Of course I called the vet back as soon as I noticed the flakes and fur loss, the vet was sarcastic and said fur mites don’t exist 😐 so I called around to other vets in our area, nobody treats rabbit fur mites, says they’ve never heard of such a thing, most don’t treat rabbits at all. I tried to get it under control with food grade diatomaceous earth and constant cleaning of her environment, but still with no like. Meanwhile they’ve spread and gotten so much worse she’s losing so much fur and clearly itchy and uncomfortable. WHAT CAN I DO? I’ve read about revolution but if I can’t get a prescription from a vet is there ANY other effective option?? Please please help!

That says cat or kitten flea powder will destroy them. I’d go with kitten as kitten are usually more safe for bunnies since they are more sensative like kittens

Are you referring to Mange? I’ve heard it’s very hard to treat, but it can be done.
Here is a link to an info page for treatment. It says it can be treated with Revolution, which is wonderful and so easy.

You might be able to get revolution online or over the counter at some pet stores. I thought it was prescription only here in Aus but then saw it recently in some other stores where I didn’t expect. If you can’t get revolution, there is Advantage as well. Never use Frontline (Fipronil) on rabbits.
