Hey everyone, so I’m a bit worried about something I’ve just found out. I noticed Apollo seems to have a lot of fur on his blankets and figured he has started moulting so I decided to give him a bit of a groom and noticed some an obvious missing chunk of fur on his back so I investigated it. Upon feeling his fur I noticed that chunks of it were coming out really easily, like if I lightly pinched a small portion of his fur it would all pull out as if it weren’t even attached to him. However, he wasn’t completely bald where the fur came out, it appears that only the top, fluffy layer of his coat is coming out but the shorter under coat isn’t so he still has fur underneath. I did some research and there is a lot of information about skin diseases and mites etc, however there isn’t any skin flakes or anything, his fur is literally coming out with complete ease and there doesn’t seem to be any irritation in fact he appeared very calm and content as if he were enjoying it when I groomed the fur out, as if it was itching him? He now has a huge chunk of fur missing from the majority of his back and I was able to fill an entire plastic sandwich tub with the lost fur. I have attached pictures just in case I haven’t explained very well. Thanks for any replies or advice as I’m quite worried.

Asriel looks like that now and actually every time he’s molting. It’s totally normal. Some buns have fur that come out in thick tufts like this. Molting can be quite an itchy experience which is why he probably enjoyed it.

None of my buns have that molt pattern but one of the buns at the shelter did. Just take your time grooming the loose fur.

Okay thank you both for your replies. I’ve just never had a rabbit that molts so much in one go it really seemed to me that something was up!
