I’ve got a large indoor cage which would fit two rabbits comfortably and yesterday we got an triangle hutch so we can put her out in the sun on the grass when we are home. recommended by the vet.

Is it easier to bond rabbits when they are younger then when they are older??? the breeder had another litter that would be ready in about 4 weeks.

I’d recommend you wait until after Pancakes is spayed (at about 6 months) and then find her an adult, neutered male and bond them. Do you have any rabbit rescues in your area? Bonding is not easy when they are young b/c there are hormones to deal with before they get altered, so even if you can get them to get along at first, that bond will probably break once they reach sexual maturity. Plus, there is the risk of pregnancy before they are altered. Regardless of when you get a second (baby or adult) during the bonding process, you will need two separate cages and two set of supplies, so take that into consideration as well.

I had my mini rex as a single rabbit for the first year. I really liked having her as a single bun so I could have the opportunity to bond with her myself. We became very close during that time. When you get a second bunny and bond them, the first will STILL love you, but they choose to spend more time with their mate over you. I certainly would not rush into anything… you have all the time in the world. ;o)

How did your vet appointment go? Did he talk to you about spaying Pancakes?

The vet appointment went very well. Did a general health check and just gave the vaccination. I was really nervous myself so my fiance drove me there. She said in about 5 – 6 months make a booking to get spayed. It costs $350 (a bit expensive but it needs to be done). I will make sure I do it on my day off from uni so that as soon as she is ready i can go pick her up plus i would be a nervous wreck all day. I think i will wait. Pancakes is still getting used to me and my partner…… and my mums 4 pets. I’m letting her out to run around my room for about an hour at a time. I will get photos up of her cage and the new hutch. luke and i spent $250 on getting her items at the pet store. We got a cage stand and a hutch, food, straw and hay etc etc….. my car was full

I missed cotton when he and Ruby got along. No more running over to jump or dig on me. Since they had an argument I have kept them seperate and Cotton has come around again. Back to his usual interactive self.

I also got to know Ruby better.

It was like a 2 or 3 months after Ruby’s spay that they started fighting. I really think it was cuz Cotton got jealous I was petting and holding Ruby that they started fighting. He has always been the jealous type. Extremely so.

So if you want 2 bunnies yes I would wait til she is older.  After her spay and a few month for her hormones to calm down. And be aware that they won’t spend as much time with you as Pancake used to.

Also bunny dating will help her pick her own partner too. And bonding can be a long process requiring lots of patience and work.  Some not so hard then again others may take longer.

they dont’ just automatically get along when you put them together.  Perhaps read some post on bonding to give you an idea.
