Flying bunny

Hello bunny lovers. 

So, I am moving to Alaska (from Chicago- about an 11 hour flight), and I am bound and determined that no matter what, Murphy will be coming with.  Having said that, I am having trouble figuring out how to get him there. 

He is allowed to sit up front with me.  And the vet and the bunny adoption center have said (and I agree) that if I can keep him upfront with me, that’s where he needs to be.   I have tried two soft carriers and he (of course) ate through both of them.  I was then looking EVERYWHERE for a hard carrier.  I cannot find anything that is the airline required size-

Hard-sided	50	7.5″ x 12″ x 17″
Soft-sided	50	9.5″ x 12″ x 17″

 (That’s height x width x depth)

I found some hard cases that were 8″ high but the airline said it CANNOT be any higher than 7.5″

SO my question is- does anyone know where I can get either a.) a soft carrier he won’t be able to chew through, or b.) a hard carrier that might fill the requirements or c.) do I have to give up and fly him cargo?!?

Thank you so much Roberta and Dwarf Sparrow. These are very nice, but he is able to eat right out of anything that is mesh in 20 minutes! I’m afraid I need something that he won’t be able to chew out of. All of those options look like they would work IN THEORY- but I’m so tired of buying things that he can escape from and they look pretty similar to the last ones I tried. Any other thoughts out there? Thanks

Good luck w/ your move!  I grew up in Chgo and all my family still lives there.  I bet the Chgo winters are going to feel like Alaska spring to you.

Thanks Emandme, I did see that one, and I was about to purchase it but I called the airline, and would you believe that the fact that it’s 8″ height and not 7.5″ is not going to work!!! I couldn’t believe there wan’t enough room for that extra inch!!! I was so mad.  Thanks for looking though.

And Cadbury, thanks to you too- I got excited, but then on closer inspection, I saw the door on the TOP is 7″, the front door- that would be the actual height is 13!  I was so bummed, it looked so promising. 

Skunklion- I hope you’re right!  I’m a little nervous about their weather up there. 

SO the serach is still on with three weeks left.  But I really appreciate the help.

What airline are you flying? Maybe they have carriers you could buy from them?
I wonder if there’s anything you could do to block the mesh (small cardboard box within the carrier?) or put on the mesh to deter your bun from eating it. Just throwing out random thoughts
