Fluffy’s X-Rays

So here are Fluffy’s x-rays. The vet said there wasn’t any sludge build-up and the white dot most likely isn’t a stone. But they wanted to do an ultrasound to take a closer look at what it is (and if we can’t find anything then an MRI or CT scan? I personally think they are trying to push expensive unnecessary tests :/ ). Well here it is I circled the dot in red, its barely visible in the second picture. I’m hoping someone with experience can tell me if it looks like a stone or anything abnormal:

Sorry I forgot to add they also said that her spine didn’t look right close to the front in the second picture.

Did they have a radiologist look at it? My vet will do that sometimes if she’s not sure – it cost a bit more but they are trained to look at x-rays….I doubt anyone here can tell you what this might be…it takes someone like a radiologist to read an x-ray or CAT Scan or MRI properly.

It seems too far back to be in the kidney itself.

Sarita- the vet put it up on a professional forum for a second opinion and those people could not confirm that it wasn’t a stone but they said it’s highly unlikely that it is. They suggested an ultrasound to see what it ‘may’ be, but I don’t have the funds for that. I haven’t been getting a clear diagnosis on anything. They did confirm that something was up with her spine though, maybe the start of arthritis?

I wonder if whatever is up with her spine may be affecting how she postures when she pees. If so, that could contribute to the urine scald.

Well arthritis could definitely be a problem with posturing correctly for urination and for bladder sludge….how old id your rabbit?

She’s 4, but I’m not sure if that is the problem because her actual urine amount is increased. Arthritis would just cause her to sit weirdly so that she pees all over herself, in her case it’s that she’s producing large amounts of urine. Also I’ve heard when they have uti they pee in small amounts but more frequently and it happens when they don’t drink enough, but she drinks tons of water so I don’t think its that either.

I’m viewing these on my phone. Does the spot look a blue-green colour to anyone else?

Marinabunny, is this the area of her spine they were concerned about?

In the X-rays of stones I’ve seen, they look super white compared to the skeleton. I’m wondering if an encapsulated abscess would show up on X-ray? The body walls off abscess building cartilage around it.

ETA: anywhere that soft tissue has calcified (or begun to) would show up on xray. And would not be as vivid like a stone would has they are typically high calcium and dense. Is what I’m thinking anyway…
X-rays pretty much make me crossed eyed. Interesting to look at though. I’m trying to figure out what organs etc lay where the spot is and what position from that view. Anyone know if major veins would run there? I take it is not where ureters or urethra is otherwise vets would have diagnosed right away.
Having a radiologist take a look like Sarita suggest could be worth a try.

Jerseygirl- I think that’s the area of the spine they were worried about. And yes the vet said the spot was too far back to be in her bladder area. They also suggested infection of the stump of her uterus which gets left behind when they spay. This has started since she got spayed.

I’m also thinking of e cuniculi, I heard it causes urine issues? So this could be anything from a urine infection to arthritis to ecuniculi, how frustrating.

That is interesting. When I was trying compare the 1st xray to anatomy diagrams, that spot looked to be where an ovary would normally be. As best I could tell. But as a said above, I find X-rays pretty confusing so I was just making half a dozen random guesses.

So this could be anything from a urine infection to arthritis to ecuniculi, how frustrating.

I know ive already mentioned this am probably sounding like a drug pusher here: all 3 of those possibilities would require an anti inflammatory. As would dental condition which she might also have. As would other spinal conditions. I really feel you’d have nothing to lose by starting her on some. Please consider talking to the vet about it?

I had a friend who had a rabbit who got that infection on the stump of her uterus too…

I honestly do not remember…it was awhile ago and I had never heard of this before either. I’ll see if I can find out.

I just looked it up and its called stump pyometra, its rare but it does cause increased drinking and urination. When I look it up, I see more info about it in dogs. Sarita would you be able to ask your friend?

I think there’s more info for dogs than rabbits simply because there isn’t enough rabbit health info on many things for rabbits.

I agree with Jersey about the pain/anti-inflammatory meds. It really can’t hurt at this point and maybe it will at least help with the symptoms until you can figure out what this is.

The only things in this area are the cecum and the ureter (tube that goes from kidney to bladder). Since she is spayed, there wouldn’t be much else there. Jersey is right though, a solid stone made of calcium would probably be a lot brighter.
