OK I’m going to get Olly to ask this question.

Pinky is running out of newspaper for my cage, I don’t like sawdust it makes me and Pinky sneeze, she said she will get me some special bark when she goes to the shop on the big shopping day, but if I need something whilst we have no newspaper for my cage, what else can we use? I usually have newspaper where I have my poop tray and where I sleep a nice royal blue carpet, we have cardboard but I chew it up and make burrows and put some in my poop tray, if anyone has any ideas can you let us know please, Pinky was thinking an old towel but she is worried I might slip in the night and hurt myself.

I have towels down but my older one, Caramel keeps pulling them off the floor and chewing on them. I have a tunnel that she chews one. I was wondering what else I can use for flooring. Any ideas?

I used sheets of dense felt for my bunnies’ flooring in their play area. You know those little sheets of felt they sell for 25 cents at the dollar store that kids use for crafts? It’s like that except more heavy-duty, dense, and doesn’t come apart easily. They sell by the meter at fabric stores and craft stores.

I lay down sheet of plastic and then the felt over top and hold it down with water bottles. When my bunnies dig at it it makes no sound, leaves no marks, and doesn’t come apart. They try to bite it but they can’t really nip onto it. Even when they try to chew at the edges nothing happens and it doesn’t leave marks and can’t be ripped up.

It’s wool felt so it dries really fast. When they have accidents it sucks up the pee and I can only see a really small wet spot only 3~5cm in diameter before it eventually gets absorbed. Unlike how it used to be a huge pool of pee. And you can only see a tiny stain from the dried pee so I just spray it with vinegar until it disappears. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing since I’d like to soak up the pee and put it in their litter box but I’m selfishly loving not having to clean it up.
I checked underneath the felt and didn’t see any pee leaked through onto the plastic underneath which was so amazing because the felt is actually quite thin.

The felt is thin so I didn’t put it in their cage because I was worried they’ll feel the metal bars underneath but they’ve been chewing up the flooring in there so this morning I decided to put felt in it and they didn’t seem uncomfortable with hopping around in there.

I’m really amazed by the felt. It doesn’t puff up or anything even though it absorbs the pee. I haven’t tried washing it yet but I plan to hand wash it gently and I hope it lasts.

How do you keep the water bottles from tipping over?

The water bottles are full of water and laid down on its side (not upright).

And I can feel the metal wiring underneath the felt in their cage but they don’t seem to care… they spend as much time in there as they used to before I changed it to felt. Maybe they can’t feel the metal underneath? But maybe I’ll put in an extra layer just in case.

I also noticed they have more traction compared to my previous flooring which was more thick and spongey (mimicking earth) but had more slip and was easily ripped up by the bunnies.
