As some of you know I’m a music ed major – so I want to be a band director for highschool kids once I get my credential.

Right now I am teaching at a middle school and I just got an email from the director there saying that now isn’t a good time for us and that I should focus on school and we can talk again when I am done.  WOW.

In an ironic twist I had to call in sick last Friday because we built that huge rabbit cage, and I was up till 4am doing it I couldn’t go in the next day…that was my 2nd time calling in sick since October.

That was fine though…she told me to get well. But then I emailed back saying that I could skip out on my class Tuesday and come give lessons. That is what did it. NOPE. I blew it. So now she doesn’ t want me working there because she thinks it affects my school. Great

I’m crying, I really loved working there, it’s what I want to do with my life. I HATE. HAAAAAAATE STARBUCKS. I would much rather quit there and continue teaching but for some reason I get paid more making coffee for jerks all day instead of teaching the gift of music to our children.

I doubt it has anything to do with you, Lin. Schools everywhere are trying to unload their arts programs due to lack of funding. I think even our college up here is cutting back all their arts to save money. (Funny thing is, they come to the city and state with their hands out every year for more…so you have to wonder where it’s going.)
I wish I could teach my kids a thing or two about music. Unfortunately I am a terrible teacher. (As evidenced y my daughters’ inability to grasp mathematics.) My vocal director was my best friend in high school, she taught me piano and voice privately as well as the school program and if she hadn’t moved to Washington I probably would still be doing all things musical with her. (She couldn’t have been 30 when we were seniors.)

Oh I know, the first thing to go out of any school is the arts departments. But this has nothing to do with me. She was only paying me for the entire school year. This has to do with the fact that I am really busy and she just wants me to focus on school but I’m just hurt because she doesn’t know how much I enjoy it. The story goes more in depth…my college is cutting back funding…California for the LOOSE. They pink slipped a bunch of music department professors and all the music department classes are waitlisted to see enrollment. I see my department being closed down in a few years time honestly. Screw California. I want out so bad.

I didn’t tell you guys, last night I came home around 2am and saw my door open. I FLIPPED OUT. I didn’t know I could run so fast into the house. I do have a gate so the dogs can’t get downstairs but STILL!! I was like WTF!!!! I closed my door. Okay,… I found my brother in my room on the floor playing with Bee. Lol. He told me she’s really cute and intersting to play with since she binkies and her ears go all over. I was so freaked out I punched him so hard lol.

*sigh* My daughter would share your opinion about brothers. They are nothing but a nuisance in her eyes. She can’t get hers to stop trying to touch her rabbit and she’ll wallop him if she catches him doing it. ~_~

I’m going to agree with MM – she may have just been looking for a reason to cut back on spending and claiming you needed to focus on school was a good excuse. Are there other schools in your area that would let you do the same thing before you finish your credentials? I would just work on getting another student teaching/internship/whatever it would be called and not stress about it too much. Your bunneh luffs you!! 😀

Are there other schools you could apply to teach music? Maybe outside of your previous age range? Or what about offering private lessons in the interim just to tide you over?

ahh, you poor thing. that’s always the story of music people. never enough money for anybody. it sucks so badly. =\

i agree with petzy, offering private lessons is a good idea. do you graduate soon? don’t worry – the end is in-sight either way! are there other schools you could go to? or maybe ask the director if you could advertise for private lessons at the school and if it’s due to funding she’ll happily let you do that and then if it’s due to wanting you to focus she’ll see that you’re determined and maybe ask you back?

oh and floppy lop ears = cute overload. there’s nothing better than calling MJ and having him run straight for me with his ears flapping as he runs. hehehehe

this is a good example of territorial behaviors often seen in females. watch out for those during bonding.
