Hi everyone!!!… I’m new to the forum and thank you to everyone who can give me some information.

me and my husband got thor 3 days ago and I’m not sure if he is stressed or anything since he looks so playful and he’s not even scared of our giant malamute ava  at all.(don’t worry rabbit is in his crate all the time ) he never hides from her .most of the time he just sits in the corner of his play pen/crate. he hops around and sleeps all day and he’s really really smart since he already figured out how to use his litter box . 

okay.. my question is that if his size is healthy for his breed thor just turned 8 weeks a day before we got her and the breeder said they are ready to go and done weaning. thor is only about 3 lbs right now and I’m really worried that hi weight is not normal . i feed him the same food the breeder uses for her rabbits for now and try to switch him to a higher protein food and he also get unlimited access to alfalfa hay mix with orchard grass that we get from our local farmer. he usually use his hay for his lamb and thor seems to love it . we give him a bit of celery every once in a while and he just loves it. i hope I’m feeding him correctly and if not .. someone please correct me. thank you so much guys

If you feed him celery, make sure to take the strings out first. 🙂 Can we see a pic of Thor?

His weight doesn’t sound right to me, he sounds very small for a giant breed of 8 weeks.

A bit of reading I’ve done from posts of breeders, a breeder on Continentals mentioned hers weigh 3+ pounds at 5 weeks, and a breeder of flemish says at 8 weeks a flemmie should weigh about 6 pounds. Did you see the parents of the rabbit? Can you post a picture so that we can see? It’s possible she also lied about the age, which is a pretty common practice with rabbits.

It’s usually recommended that you don’t start giving veggies/greens to rabbits until they are 12 weeks old.

Giants tend to grow slower than smaller rabbits, and it can take even a year for their growth period to finally be over. Our french lop Sukka weighed 1,25kg at 8 weeks, and was quite a good size then in comparison to her “peers” – so I don’t think the weight you’re describing is entirely abnormal for a flemish/continental mix, though maybe a tad on the small side (keeping in mind that frenchies are smaller than either contis or flemmies). I would keep an eye on it, and make sure your future giant has a lot of good-quality food to eat (ALFALFA! PROTEIN!), but not be too worried just yet.
