So I brought both of my rabbit to a boarding place while I am on vacation. They are there for 6 days. I have three cats who stayed home. My family is concerned that my rabbit might pick up fleas. I saw the room they would be in, and personally I think it looked fine. It didn’t seem to have anything (and I was all over the floor because I had to set up their cage).

For the cats we have flea meds, so they should be fine. But my family is worried about the rabbits. They want to put flea meds on them, but I know there is only certain brands I can use for them. I tried convincing them that I’ll brush them and check for fleas, but they would feel safer with the meds on them.

So I read on the houseofrabbit that “advantage” and “revolution” will be safe on them, but needs to be a certain amount, which they didn’t give you. My question is has any one had fleas on their rabbit, what did you use and what did you do? I plan on also calling my vet on Monday to see if maybe they can give me advice. Thanks!

Advantage and Revolution are both fine for fleas on rabbits. Use the same dosage as for kittens.

The compound to absolutely avoid is fipronil. It’s the active substance in many flea- and tick treatments, for example Frontline, Sentry and Effipro. It’s deadly toxic to rabbits but fine for cats and dogs.

Here you can find the dosage for rabbits: http://animalhealth.bayer.co.za/html/pdf/cap/CAP_Products/Advantage_Kittens_Rabbits.pdf
