When snickers moved in, 12 weeks ago, a sneeze was enough to send her racing round and round in frantic circles. So, with bonfire night approaching, I have gone for my usual tactic of playing si fi a little louder each night, hoping this would help her cope with all the flashes and bangs. This year, we are watching the Tom Baker Dr Who episodes, voted for by my eldest son and Podge, and I have also boarded up the patio doors, to reduce the impact of all the flashes.

Just as well I started preparing early, cos one of my neighbours did a combo Halloween-fireworks party last night, and there were fireworks going off right outside the back garden for over half an hour. Snickers could see Pippi and the others were unfazed, and soon agreed begging for another barley ring was more important than the flashes and bangs. a bite of broken barley ring every few minutes got Snickers and every bun n pig else calmly through next doors quite impressive display, which I was able to appreciate, unconcerned about scared buns.

For anyone wondering how to help pets cope with fireworks, Snickers gives watching Dr Who for days before the paws up

Yup – definitely – or some boom boom BOOM music or just pop (POP?! Hahaha!) music where the ‘POPS’ and ‘WEES’ and ‘BANGS’ can be absorbed into the background. Turn it up a bit and your buns / cats / dogs won’t be worried at all….

We’ve had the odd one or two going off here tonight. Buns seem to be ok with it. Frankie was an outdoor bun so he’s more scared of indoor noises like me sneezing & coughing (I have a cold at the mo so that is all the time!!) or the tv

Ax – how funny ! I think Henry is the same… I have music on a lot in the background and sometimes he thumps for no (obvious) reason and I think it’s a certain beat or instrument !! LOL
