Hello everyone !
We’ve had rabbits as pets growing up (my younger sis and I), but they lived in outdoor hutches made by my parents. Very nice large hutches, I might add.. but we couldn’t bring them indoors. So in the colder months they received very little attention. We were gifted them as Easter presents — I know, people now understand this to be a bad idea– but we kids loved them and my parents were wise as to the care they needed. So they were fed not only rabbit pellets but a varied diet of approved greens and plenty of hay. We also had some laying hens, a milking goat and two dogs.
Fast forward to today. Finally decided to buy a house bun ! We now have a dark grey Mini Rex buck with the softest fur imaginable, with a bluish tinge –so we call him Fiver. He came from a show breeder and is too small to use for shows –so he was slated to go to a pet store. I know her from buying barn cats and asked to see the buns that she was unable to show.
Silly, but I felt like I saved him from having to go sit in a pet shop waiting for who knows what buyer…….
He is presently in a extra large pet cage, but we are thinking of building him a larger one so he can feel more free range, even when in his ‘home’.
Fiver gets to run up and down the hallway and around my kid’s room –and yes, we’ve bunny-proofed it ! The best thing is that he’s already starting to be more friendly and nos-bumps us–and never bites.
He’s due to get something ‘snipped’ as soon as we can make an appointment at the vet… but “Shhhh”, don’t tell him yet !
Sorry everyone but my son changed his name to “Fiver” — the bunny is partly his. I’ll try to change the username to reflect this.
