Fiver’s dental – Friday

Could we please have some spare vibes for Fiver on Friday morning? He will be making his first trip to the fabulous Dr. B on the hill across town for his dental and I know he’ll be very nervous. (So will I, natch.) They are great with the pets there, but I still worry he’ll make a sudden move they don’t anticipate.

I am so sad. This wonderful dental vet is going to a different state to practice now (in your neighborhood, MB) and will only be in Alaska from now on during the last day of each month. I know she is VERY popular here, can you imagine how crazy her surgery is going to be that one day every month?

That’s very unfortunate about your dental vet. Luckily for most things like dentals you book ahead of time anyways.

Well that was quick! 0_o We took him in at 9:30 a.m. and they called at 12:30 p.m. We’d literally just walked in the door from grocery shopping and I’d had no time to relax (or worry!) We ran all the way back to get him and just got home and finished settling him in a few minutes ago.
He looks awful to be honest. He can’t even lie down at the moment. He’s nibbled some greens but you can tell he doesn’t want to move that mouth. He still has that goop they put on his eyes all over him and a wild look to them. I know he’s with me though because the minute we left the office I heard him furiously scratch in his litter pan to show his disapproval.
Only his lowers needed burring. They were very sharp judging by the photo she took. It was good to have done. Luckily no abrasions on his tongue.
She also did an EKG since this was his first time there and a CBC. Thr labs are being sent Outside for a proper look, since our in state ones don’t do some tests that vets need correctly. His heart is pronounced to be in great shape…a relief since I know some rexes can have trouble there.
She did say his eardrums looked ‘thickened.’ May be normal for him or a sign of inner ear problems. I haven’t noticed anything that would indicate that but she told me to let her know if he has anymore odd chewing motions or balance issues.
He’s had .2 ml metacam…just waiting for him to calm down now. He was VERY scared this morning and more uncooperative than usual. Poor bub.
Thanks again for all the good vibes! I need to take a nap now…got no sleep worth a darn last nite.

Yup, MB…I know. Another sign is we get snow next week. >.< Oh joy. …..AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!! 0_o
I don’t remember, is Hillsboro near Portland? That’s the new setup.

Oh, and the vet won’t be back here only for a day, it’s for a week. The receptionist must’ve misheard her. But in the meantime I’ll get to know Dr. G better since she’ll be helping run the practice here when Dr. B is gone.

Fiver still seems pretty stiff. He has a huge bruise on his ear where they did the blood draw and he has mussy fur all the way to his shoulders. He really doesn’t take to dentals well.
I’ve continued to give him greens (hey, he can go off his usual diet for a day or so till he feels better) and a small amount of pumpkin to cheer him up. Hopefully he can get back to his timmy hay in a few days, but until then it’s the softer orchard.

You guys should’ve heard the squee I got from Jenna when I got back the first time, (I leave her with my daughter for town trips unless she really needs to go) you’d think I’d been on a world cruise and she hadn’t seen me in years. (awww) She gets so worried when I leave without her, but truly, she does better without having to deal with the hubby’s driving.

Snuggles to Fiver delivered from all and accepted in exchange for (tentative) tooth purrs! ^_^ Even that must be a little sensitive, you can see he wants to, he starts, then he thinks about it…. x_x
Can’t blame him, I hate going to my dentist too. I would rather have general anesthesia and surgery. Oh wait…that IS what he had…geeze I REALLY need a nap! lolz! xD

Poor little Fiver. I loathe going to the dentist too. It’s just awful and having a sore mouth is no fun.

I’m glad he made it through well and it’s great that the vet didn’t give you time to sit home and worry (I hate that part…)

Lolz… Congrats then, hun, you’ve just scored one of the best dental vets in creation there. I’ll PM you her name, not sure of the name of the office.
Fiver passed the night well. He weathered this dental much better than last year’s. He looks almost back to normal today.
