I adopted Noelle on December 22, 2010. She is a mini lop. I’ve been reading a lot online, specifically on forums and rabbit specific websites. We’re still in the process of getting to know each other. Our biggest hurdle right now is that she kicks when I try to pick her up. I understand the proper way to pick her up (I’ve seen rabbits being picked up, read about different ways to pick them up, and watched every Youtube video imaginable on how to pick up a rabbit), but she was in a bad situation before I adopted her so she is fearful of being handled. I do understand that most rabbits never enjoy being handled, but I at least need to get it to where I can quickly get her from point A to point B without injury. We’re working on it.

        Here are some pics:

          Welcome!
Congratulations on the new addition & becoming a rabbit slave like the rest of us LOL

Noelle is a beauty! She could be a sister to Bubba my agouti minilop
There is a ton of great info on this site, if you have any questions post away

She’s adorable!! I just love lops.

Don’t feel too bad about the picking up. Both of my bunnies grew up in excellent homes and neither like to be picked up (one tolerates it, the other we’ve never been able to pick up, even once). They’re just stinkers about that sometimes!

Thanks for all of the responses! I have figured out how to transport her to and from her cage for out of cage play time. She likes to go in to her carrier, so all I have to do is put the carrier in front of her, and put some food toward the back, and in she goes! She makes it quite easy. She still thumps quite a bit when she’s out because she is still unsure, and thumps on and off while she’s in her cage. She tolerates having her head and back pet. She hasn’t nipped or bitten yet. I think for our first week we’re off to a decent start.

1st week? That is great! I do similar for my agouti lop who doesn’t do well with being picked up. He kind of knows the carrier (or whatever I’m using) is the better alternative for him. When I do need to handle him, I use the carrier like you, let him jump out onto the top of the washing machine and then I can pick him up from there.
I just love Noelle’s face! Sounds like she’s finally in the ideal home for her.

Can you open one of the panels of the pen during her exercise time so she doesn’t have to be lifted in and out? That would be easier on you both if she could come and go from her cage on her own (and still have access to her food and litterbox).

                            What’s DR?

And she is absolutely stunning! I LOVE her fleece blankets, I wish I had ones the same, haha.

Hello Randi! Welcome. Can I ask what kind of grids you used to make the rabbit enclosure? They are different than the ones I know.

Hi Petzy! They aren’t actually the NIC grids. It is a Martin’s playpen. It is just under 4’x4′.

Beautiful bun!! I also took in a bun who came from a bad place in Nov 2010, it took her a few weeks but she has brightened up extremely since we got her. Her personality really came out and you can even see it in her eyes. Sounds like your off to a greath start! Best of luck and warm wishes to you and your bun, I’m glad she is in a good place, looks like a cozy crate .
