Hi new friends! I’m Tara from Sydney, Australia, and we have recently adopted a little boy bun, Pancakes. We found him and his siblings in the carpark at my work, where their parents have been allowed to roam free in the streets and breed (thanks to some irresponsible owners)… Two of the siblings were given to a rabbit rescue lady for rehoming but this little guy won us over with his personality and adorable face.

He has had a rough trot so far, with some kind of skin infection on his ears (first vet opinion is maybe fungal?).. Secondly, he climbed up onto a shelf and couldn’t get down so I picked him up and he wriggled/I dropped him about a metre off the ground  So one broken hind leg later, we are now trying to navigate our way through bun life. Poor Pancakes is confined to cage rest for the next few weeks while his leg heals and I feel so terrible that he is stuck in there so have been racking my brain to think of little things to help ease the boredom. I had no idea they could be so hilarious with their moods and so affectionate. Pancakes loves to lick your hand and is a total guts, always looking for food. He also loves to dig/scratch at the bottom of his temporary cage and also loves to jump, climb and flop.

ANYWAY I’ve been reading these forums and finally decided to introduce ourselves so HELLO  We also have a big kitty sister, Clementine and we are very excited to give Pancakes the best life we can!

Hi! It’s great that you took Pancakes into your home, and his name is too cute . That is unfortunate about his leg, but I’m glad you got him care to fix it. Almost all buns (there are a few exceptions out there) do not like being picked up because they are a prey animal, so they will wriggle or try to jump out of your arms if you try. In situations when you have to pick up your bun, you have to not only watch out for injury to their legs but also buns can injure their spines easily if they struggle in your arms too much/kick about too hard. If you’re worried about Pancakes being bored while he is recovering, just spend as much time with him as you can since buns are social animals, and check out some diy toy ideas online so that he can have a variety of fun stuff to chew/destroy .

                Hello there and welcome

Well done on taking Pancakes into your home, he certainly has had an unlucky start but with love and care he’ll be up to more mischief in no time at all I see he already has a partner in crime

Pancakes is adorable. It seems like he has a lot of spunk, which is awesome!

Pancakes is trying to contest the title of ‘biggest rascal in the house’. He has chewed his cast off after trying to leap out of the cage.. Between him and the mischievous naked cat, I am going to have a head full of grey hairs. Thank goodness the cast was due to come off this week.. his leg actually looks quite good to my untrained eye but I just had a stern word to him – ‘Cast removal was NOT your job!’ Fingers crossed his leg is healing fine and he hasn’t done more harm than good. Off to the vet we go!
