Hope I’m posting correctly as I’m new to the forum

I’m a first time bunny mom and I brought my girl home yesterday 🙂 She’s a 9wk old Rex/Flemish cross I believe is what I was told. She will eventually be a cecotrope donor for the wild cottontails I rehabilitate as a wildlife rehabber.

So far so good. … She’s shy from being in a house for the first time with unknown people, so I’m letting her adjust and make up her mind about if we are acceptable as possible friends 😉 she is coming up to check us out more and more and she hopped up on my pillow, licked my eyelid and slept above my head for her first night ♡

I’m already crazy in love with this sweet girl. Hopefully this link to her pictures works…..

          She’s beautiful!  And she’s only 9 weeks?

What’s her name?  If she doesn’t have one yet, I’m sure that we could lend some suggestions.

          Welcome to the forums!

It’s great that you rehab cottontails!  They hold a special place for me, as my first bun was an eastern cottontail.  Where do you rehab?  I’d love to hear more about it!

              I’m in Washington state 🙂

She doesn’t have a name yet. .. I like to watch their personalities until a name pops up that just seems to fit lol. She’s doing so much more wonderful than I could have expected especially being so young! She has full access to the living room dining room and kitchen only at this time and one private bed area in a quiet area of the dining room and another in the living room. At first she preferred the dining room away from us but now she spends all her time in the living room pretending she doesn’t notice us while casually hopping by, giving a sniff and a quick jump on and then off my lap…. kinda like ‘oops I didn’t see you and I accidentally touched you silly human’

I’m guessing this is pretty typical bun behavior 😉

Oh! And I just found out what a binky means lol… She’s been doing them when she wakes up all through the day ♡

Those binkies sound so precious. I would love to see a video if you can get one.

Here’s what I call her ‘melting into the floor’ pose…… She seems to be pretty comfortable with her new home here

I’ll have to get video of her happy jumping sessions, its adorable!

The only training ‘issue’ we’ve had so far is her perception that the couch is hers… the way she tells me it’s hers is by jumping up and leaving little pellet markers for me. I honestly don’t see this as naughty, it seems like normal behavior to be expected? But I’m a first time bunny mom, so I could easily misinterpret her behavior while we are getting acquainted lol

Goodness, that pic is too adorable!

Poop-marking is a way of claiming the sofa. It’s not naughty, it’s instinct. I’m guessing you will have her spayed when she’s old enough. That usually helps with marking- behavior. If she starts to pee on the sofa you’ll need to block her access to it until she’s spayed.

Ok, good, that’s what I thought she was doing. She’s currently not allowed on the furniture, not because I don’t want her to someday enjoy couch snuggling, but because I want her to develop good potty habits first. When she hops on the couch, I tell her no and gently move her back to the floor. If she hops up to leave pellets, I gently pick her AND her pellets up and put her in her litter box with them. She usually sits in it and pouts for a while when that happens lol…. but I’m pretty sure she caught on quickly to understanding the rules.

Yes she will be spayed as soon as she’s old enough. She has an appointment with a rabbit vet next week to have a wellness check and discuss spaying and care 🙂

It’s very wise not to let her onto the sofa until she’s spayed, they very often like to mark soft places that have human scent on them, and if they get into the habit, it can be difficult to unlearn even if the bunny is desexed.

Thanks! I’m totally smitten with her as you can see in this video of her being spoiled lol…. I’m pretty sure she’s bonding pretty well during our first week together since she just started coming up and plopping down on her back for belly rubs. ♡
