First signs of not eating?

Ok, so I should know this by now. But it’s because it’s a new guy that it’s throwing me off.

We have a new little guy, like a Nethie with an afro. We have had him less than a week. Shaving him to remove all his fur was one adventure. But he has had mushy poops and runny poops since he came home. Now today I haven’t seen him eat and his bottom was such a mess he needed a butt bath. He pushes around his food dish and his hay, but doesn’t eat. I’ve seen him drink once in 8 hours.

My question is, is it too early to assume he’s not eating and start syringe feeding?

He’s also been in low activity mood today.

ETA: I started syringe feeding. He has extremely runny and stinky poo. Poor little new guy.

I hope this post makes sense.

Note* he was COVERED every square inch in mats, that’s why we shaved him/trimmed him.

Id been wondering how you’ve been,
Poor lil new bun! I know he is in good hand with you for keeping his coat nice when it grows back. I hope you can get the poop issue sorted.
Maybe it was some stress as to why he wasn’t eating? Feeding him is probably a good idea at this point, if he won’t eat himself.

Hay he been eating hay in the first few days you brought him home?

ETA: I wonder if the bad matts didn’t allow him to get his cecals comfortably?  That would lead to a gut imbalance if that was the case.

Hi Jersey!

Yeah, he had been eating and drinking up til today and his poops were getting better. But today was like wham! No food no water and runny poos. I’m hoping maybe it was stress from the dematting – that was like a 3 day ordeal.

He’s such a mess right now. Poopy soggy butt and messy chin from the syringe feeding. His fur may SOMEDAY recover lol.
