Finally! *UPDATE*

Hey Everyone!

I posted into a different section before, but since I finally got my bun, I figured I would introduce us. I have literally had her for about 2 hours, I’m taking pics now and will add them here as soon as I can. Here is a little bit about her!

Her name is Alice and she is a 5(ish) year old New Zealand. She is not spayed at the moment, but I do plan on doing that ASAP. I got her from a friend of a friend of a friend, haha. She was originally her mothers rabbit but after her mom passed away, she inherited her. She already had quite a few other animals and wasn’t prepared to take on another rabbit, That’s when I jumped in! I had only gotten to see 1 picture of her before I picked her up and I could tell that she was not well taken care of. The girl did let me know that her mother was not a good bunny mom. She is stained all on her underside and has quite a few mats. I’m giving her a little time to settle in before I start cleaning her up a bit. I also already have a vet appointment set up for her for a check up. She also didn’t have access to hay or much food at all, I think. I have tons of hay and pellets out for her and she is literally inhaling all of it! I’m glad that she is eating and adjusting fairly well so far. She didn’t take too long to come out of the carrier and seems very curious about her new place. I’ll update with pics soon!

She’s pretty. Lets hope she lets you and/or the vet clean her up and de-mat her. Glad you were able to rescue her from her previous life and can her a better home and better life!

I didn’t want to start a new thread for this but we had our first vet visit yesterday and we need to re-introduce ourselves!

Alice is actually a boy!

We (my niece and myself) have renamed the bunny Angus. I’ll call him Gus for short. He is in relatively good health. He got all the mats removed and looks so much better. Not to mention he moves around a lot better too because the bulk of the mats were behind his back legs. He eats like a giant pig but weighs only 6lbs. I don’t know if that is normal for New Zealands. The vet put him on an antibiotic and a dewormer. Also, his right eye was a little runny and goopy so he has some eyedrops for that. My vet mentioned that it could be E. Cuniculi. I’m hoping that’s not the case. If the eye doesn’t clear up, he said we can run some tests to see if he has it.

He is the sweetest bunny! He loves to get pets on his head and doesn’t fight when I give him his meds. The only time he nips us is if we go into his area and he has no food! I love him . I finally finished his permanent area. He was staying in the bathroom, which was a bit more roomy, but not properly bunnified. I’ll add a couple pics to show everyone!

I like his new area! Keep an eye on the puzzle mats to make sure he doesn’t start chewing on them. He looks much happier and pretty comfy all stretched out, and the rest of the discoloration on his feet and rear will grow out.

He probably feels like he’s won a lottery now that he’s being well cared for and has such a nice home! (and check out that salad bowl!!!)

I’m definitely keeping an eye out on chewing the mats. He doesn’t seem to be interested in them yet. He likes the little cardboard tubes, but just kind of throws them around. They are more of a temporary solution for right now. He’s peeing everywhere so until he gets neutered, these will have to do! He does look comfy though!

We have puzzle mats in our hallway play area and they’re great for traction, but every once in a while one of my girls gets bratty and will bite pieces off and spit them out (Moshi behaves himself though!). We haven’t found a better solution yet so one of us has to stay with them at all times while they’re out there — nothing like a human jungle gym in the play area!
