Hey everyone. Some of you know that Wick, who is now 7mo, had been on antibiotics (+ probiotic) treatment, twice to three times a day since he was 10wo. He is now enjoying his first few days medication free since he and I can remember! Though no tests were done to find the exact infection, Wick has recovered from what was most likely bacterial infections in his respiratory system. He went from Bactrim to Baytril, and continued on Baytril with the addition of penicillin injections to finally rid himself of the infection.

I do have a question. Being paranoid, I am wondering if anyone has had experience with infections coming back, and if so, what was the latency for it to re-appear? With Wick, we kept him on Baytril for about a week following his termination of gross sneezes. He still sneezes in hay and has clear discharge dribbling out at times. Baytril stayed on because I figured all sneezing and wet-discharge would go away, but we believe those are general allergies now.

          Well done Wick!
Pasteurella is the hard one to treat. But I haven’t read of a typical recurrence pattern, just that it is hard to kill.
Lancelot gets recurring ear infections – Id’ say one every 2-3 months. But each bunny is different. And each bacteria is different. I wouldn’t try to find the similarities if I were you – or you might find yourself over-treating him for every small thing. When Lancelot was sneezing, he was on SMZ for 4 weeks. It took another 2 months for the sneezing to stop. So I dont’ even know if the SMZ had any effect at all. The weepy eyes never went away. He still has weepy eyes. They get worse when he is in pain, but even when he is happy and pain free, he still has weepy eyes. No antibiotics have fixed that. And he’s been on SMZ, Baytril, and Chloramphenicol.
I’m not sure there is a firm answer to this – only speculation. And that’s no good…
