Female Bunny seems to be Traumatized

Hi All,

First time poster, so i apologize if i’m in the wrong place.

I got my rabbits about 2 months back and they were both 2 months old. One girl, one boy, both are holland lops. They were not siblings but got along great and were always grooming/lying around together. About a two weeks back, the boy began to mature and started mounting the girl, this went on for a while and we finally decided that they needed to be separated. We placed the girl in the attached bathroom and set up an area for her. We left the boy in the main room, with the cage etc. We put a mesh pet gate at the door so they could still see each other.

Any way, long story short, we have let them back together a few times to see what would happen and the boy always ends up chasing her, so we stopped doing that. The boy seems to be him self, but the girl seems to be extremely scared, she moves and eats very little. I think she’s also lost some weight. She use to be super energetic and always exploring, but now she hides in a corner for most of the day. I’m not sure what to do, i was thinking about bringing her into our room or another room, so she could have more space, but i don’t know how feasible that is at this point. 

Is she just going though her hormonal stage? is there any thing i can do?  We haven’t decided when we will get them spayed/neutered, initially we were thinking of letting them have a litter. 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you think she might be pregnant? Rabbits are induced ovulators, meaning they ovulate upon being mated. Small breeds can become pregnant as early as at 12 weeks. It’s very good that you’ve separated them. Whether she’s pregnant or not, she doesn’t seem to appreciate the attention from the male. If she is pregnant, she might need a bit of extra food so she gets all nutrients she needs.

How is her appetite? How is her poop? Gross as it might sound, bunny poop is is very important to monitor. Decrease in size (and amount) indiactes sth is wrong. Here’s a picture-guide to bunny poop:

The BB forums has a rule against discussing intentional breeding of rabbits. If you need advice regarding that subject,there’s a more appropriate forum called rabbits online: http://www.rabbitsonline.net/

They have a section for breeders. We don’t have the experience here, and we quite frankly want to avoid promotion of intentional breeding. That said, we of course want your buns (and you) to be healthy and thriving and happy.

I don’t think she is pregnant, but i’ll keep a look out for any hints that she is.

I discovered today that she is limping, her left hind leg isn’t extending out as it should and i think that is the reason she hasn’t been as active or eating as usual. My guess is that she was injured right before they were separated because she jumped into a cardboard box with stuff in it when he was chasing her around. She seems to be a lot better today, she’s moving around and eating but continues to limp around. Is there any way to tell how serious this is?
