This doesn’t have anything to do with bunnies unfortunately, I just need some support I just graduated college at 20 years old and am desperately searching for a job in my profession, but I can’t find one anywhere. So I’m just searching for a job for the time being until something opens up. So I have been on craigslist every day for the past month trying to find a job and applying for a job (any job really but since I can’t find one in my profession I really prefer one with animals *kennels mostly*). I have enough money in my bank account for first months rent for a new apartment (It’s a 3 bedroom that I’m going to split with my boyfriend and 2 of his friends *I know both friends and they don’t care that we have a bunny and are pretty friendly people in general*). I’m just really nervous because I haven’t found a job yet and I really need one and just feel defeated. I just feel sad and that the real world is here now and I have car insurence due (not for another few months *I have it set up where I have to pay every 6 months and it works great*) and student loans (I want to start saving up for payments). I’m trying to take it one step at a time but it just feels overwhelming sometimes.

I’ll be in that world soon. Best of luck. I am trying to save up and get a good education now, so that I can find a good job later. (*I didn’t meant to put it as if you did not do those things.*) I would try to rent out areas of your house once (IF) you buy one. Drive around town asking for a job. Have gumption! http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/gumption

What is your degree in? I know you love animals, but have you tried looking for jobs that are somewhat relating to your profession? Or even something office/reception related? Computer, customer service, and office experience is something that can look good on everyone’s resume.

Is your boyfriend understanding that he may be covering some of your expenses in the meantime? I assume you live with him now…

Try and keep a positive attitude!

Have you done much with your state employment office ?(usually the same place that processes unemployment). There might be some helpful job searching services that you’ve over looked. I know they offer a lot of job hunting services where I live (at no cost of course).

I agree with Beka, maybe look for something loosley or non related to your desired profession. That way you can have an income and build up a resume while you continue to look for your ideal job.

                Best of Luck!

I’m leaning towards either dentist or vetinarian or (very small chance of this) both. For the past month I’ve been saying that I want to become dentinarian.  Good luck! I hope you find a job soon. I’ll be thinking about you.

Beka- I graduated in the Polysomnographic Technologist program (sleep studies), there really isn’t anything close to that except EEGs and I’ve been looking for those jobs as well. My boyfriend is also looking for a job as well and we are currently living together.
Move- I will check to see if there is something like the unemployment thing near me.
Colleen- That sounds awesome Colleen my back up plan was to be a vet tech

You’re looking on craigslist? Surely there is a website for your local labor department. Mine has listings that are posted every day. What about your college? Do they have a career center? They should be helping you find a job. My college’s career center also has a job listings website.

That being said, I know EXACTLY how you feel. I have been looking for a job for a year and a half. I was able to find something later in the year last year. I love it there, but it doesn’t pay well and I don’t get enough hours. I know I can’t stay there forever, but in the mean time I’m building some experience. That’s probably what you need – experience. That has been my biggest downfall.

I graduated college, and that’s exactly my problem I have no experience except Darien Lake lol, I have also put in for tim hortons and stuff like that. My brother works at Kraft so he’s going to get me an application for there as well. It really sucks being so young that you can’t put anything on a resume.

Have you tried getting a receptionist or intake job at local hospitals or doctors offices? Some of these places may be willing to train and it’s at least medical related. I can understand why you’re having trouble, that is definitely a very limited career…

Yes, receptionist or patient registrar might be a good way to start. At least that would be medical related.

I am going to go with a fellow student that I have become friends with to put in my resume in all of the hospital/sleep labs in areas near me. Sometimes the sleep lab is a different part of the hospital and sometimes it’s like a hotel so it’s a completely different building. Yes it’s a very different field and that’s kind of why I chose it. If I lived in PA I could get $35/hour, too bad it’s 4 hours 1 way

In most areas home health aides are in high demand. Not really an easy job but at least it will help pay bills until you find something more suitable for you.
My ex told me he was looking for a sleep study in pa. He’s been suffering from insomnia.

Are you open to relocation? Is there just not a large demand in YOUR area? It sucks to have to move for a job, but sometimes it’s the only option. Since your BF is between jobs too, there might not be much tying you to the area right now… How far out are you applying?

No there are no jobs (that I know of and I am constantly searching) in the area around me, my boyfriend and I would move to PA except he just got accepted to the nursing program at the school I went to and he already did a semester there and next semester starts in a few months. That’s pretty much the only reason why we aren’t moving (and I would take the job and move down there myself but we just don’t have the money to get a second car and for a first months rent down there). Since the shifts are 12 hours I would prefer one closer to me so I don’t fall asleep on the drive back. The closest place that is hiring is 2 hours and 10 minutes away which would make my 12 hours into 16 hours including the drive there and back.

UPDATE: So I finally got a job though it’s not in my profession…but it’s better than nothing especially since we moved to the new apartment actually I got 2 jobs so no more money problems. I’m working at dunkin donuts and goodwill they are within walking distance of each other and only 5 minutes drive away from the apartment

Congrats on solving the money problem! I just saw your post from your update but just to give a suggestion based on your initial post – I’ve experienced job searching in a very specific field with a lack of experience being my downfall as well while I went through interviews. It’s always harder to find employers hiring (especially in a not-so-high economy) and they’re going to prefer an experienced person that can start right away with less training required. So to get your foot in the door of your wanted career, have you looked into volunteering opportunities? I know money was your issue initially, but I’ve learned even with just some experience it’ll give you a better edge over other job applicants. Some companies accept graduates for internship programs as well -maybe you’ll get lucky with a PAID internship! Best of luck in your career! =)

thanks simba is adorable by the way he looks like a holland lop well I do have practice in the job field because of clinical we did 2 12 hour shifts a week so it’s not as if I have no experience lol though I have to take a $600 test to become a RPSGT which would make job hunting a LOT easier because that’s what they are looking for really. I’m just a polysomnographic graduate….I’m essentially nothing until I take this test

Yay for no lengthy commute also!!

Now earning income, you’re closer to being able to take the test so you’re heading in the right direction.

Yea though I’ll have to wait about 3 years and move to PA because that’s where they are paying $30/hour whereas where I live now they will only pay about $18/hour
