Sorry if a long post. One night when I opened my apartment door in pops a stray cat. I was shocked but he was super friendly so I decided to let him stay as long as he wanted that night. Once I got close enough to notice he was fixed and was a cuddle bug I knew he was someones sweet pet gone missing. The problem is I have contacted our local shelter to post a finding, posted on craiglist and petfinder, and put up flyer yet no one has come to claim this sweety. His only problem is he stalks and scares my two buns so I know he would not be happy in my tiny apartment since Winter has the run of the place. I feel horrible when I think of trying to find him another home because I feel like once I do his real owner is going to show up. I would be heartbroken if someone did this to me so I feel like the bad guy. I guess my question is should I wait longer or go ahead with the adoption of sorts that I have set up for him. I have been baby-sitting as my shelter calls it for almost 3 weeks now and our shelter only waits 3 days for the owners to show up.

Just so you guys will know how sweet he is here he is cuddling with the bofriend and also him sprawled out in one of his favorite sleeping positions.

          Aww, what a cutie!

It’s a tough call, but after 3 weeks if nobody has asked at the shelter about him, I would guess they don’t want him back. I would go ahead with the adoption and get him a new permanent home.

Have you had him checked for a microchip? A lot of people opt for those now when they get their cats/dogs fixed. Shelters etc usually check for free for you.

After three weeks, if no one has stepped forward to claim him, that is about all you can do for him. I would go ahead with a rehome if he is not chipped.

When I took him to the shelter so they could post the finding report they checked him and nothing. I just hope that the home I have picked for him will make him happy and they will love him forever. I am positive he will win them over with his cuddly personality. Who wouldn’t when he will force you to cuddle with him at night or the first time you find him passed out in your sink.

We’re always here to help, bunny-related or not. It’s too bad your bunnies are afraid of him. Mine are probably a little too fearless at times. =D He sounds like such a sweet kitty. I love sweet kitties, I really miss mine. I hope you can find him a good home. I agree about the 3 weeks thing. If his owners wanted him, then they would have come looking for him. I guess unless they are out of town or something and they have a really lousy pet sitter. I think it’s more likely that they just aren’t interested. It’s sad though. With such a sweet kitty, you wonder how they could not want him. =(

He stalks and paws at the two of them so I understand why they are freaked. The home I have found for him is with a vet tech assistant and her farmer fiance so I know he will get the best care and love possible.

He’s such a cutie. That was so nice of you bring him in and look after him.

I have always wanted to help every animal since I was little be happy. Probably why my buns think they are in charge. Last night the kitty witnessed our new bun binkying all over the place. He didn’t know what to do. He thought she had gone crazy and was looking back at me like “what do I do now?”

Awww what a cutie pie!! I have a cat that loves to cuddle just like that! I think that if no one has stepped up to claim him after nearly a month then he should be adopted out to a forever home since you can’t keep him. I mean if whoever’s cat it was were missing him that much they would have been putting up flyers too and eventually would have come across yours. I guess they might not want him back, which is sad cuz he is sooooo cute!! You are doing the right thing and finding him a great home

One more thing I would look into is if he may have lived in your apartment in the past. Cats will return to previous residences if given the opportunity. have you lived in the apartment long? Do you know who else may have lived there in the last 10 years?

Cats will sometime travel really far from home, it’s possible that his old owners do still care, but live outside your local area so they didn’t know to check your shelter and local craigslist. That said, it is highly unlikely that you will be able to track them down, so finding him a new permanent home is best for him.

I actually just moved to Lexington, KY in August so it is possible Eepster. My boyfriend noticed that Pokey (pokes your face when holding him like a baby) looked at home on the first day. My apartment building manager is a huge animal lover and we have talked with her to see if any of the tenants have had a cat like him.
