Well it is officially February (my time anyway). So happy February!

I can’t believe we are already a month into the new year. What the heck happened to January? Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Which reminds me I need to buy a card. No plans really, but maybe I can convince my husband to go out to eat or something. He refuses to get me flowers anymore since the flower shop pissed him off. Anyone have something special planned?

As I posted in a different thread I will be doing some much needed improvements in the bunny room. tack on some fencing on the lower part of the window so the bunnies stop chewing the trim. Make a litter screen so Mocha will stop emptying his litter boxes constantly! Also figure out a way to for them to stop chewing my new rug…..

Got my braces tightened yesterday so I can’t eat anything that requires chewing….. Also think I got a sinus thing from my Mom, So I will most likely be sitting around on BB a lot as I am not feeling the best! LOL

My special plans for Valentine’s Day is work from 9 a.m.-6:30 p.m. and then my night class from 7-9:40p.m. >.< So it's official to say I won't be seeing my bf on Valentine's until I get home after class. xD We might do something like dinner on the weekend but I'm not sure. Our five year anniversary is coming up in May and I know we're going to something big for that so I would honestly just like to save money until then.

I love our new foster bun. He’s a total sweetheart and an energetic cutie. But his nipping is driving me up a wall. I’ve been trying out all the techniques to get him to stop. But I honestly just think it’s his way of grooming and/or telling what the object it. I think his more troubles with his eyesight then he lets on.

I work on Valentine’s Day from 3:30-7:45. The boyfriend is very busy with work, so he might be off at 9. We are pretty laid back so I don’t really care what we do for Valentine’s Day. I’m happy with chocolate and just relaxing since we are so busy.

Last night, I went to Laser Tag with my boyfriend and his coworkers. Each year, they play a round of Laser Tag against another clinic. It was so fun, but very sweaty! After it was over, the boyfriend and I went to eat at “The Ram.” I had yummy fish and chips (I still eat fish, but not often), a caramel appletini which was TO DIE FOR! And a Watermelon, Strawberry long island. I’m paying for that one this morning with a headache, but otherwise doing fine hahaha

I got my HRS Winter Newsletter yesterday and only got to reading it this morning. There is an article named “Education one on one.” It is about how rabbit people like to find opportunities to educate the public about house rabbits, and the frequently known places to do that is “In the Grocery Check out or the Vet Office.” I am very guilty of the grocery check out. I’m a part time cashier and most of my customers buy pet food and that allows me to bring up the chance that I have a rabbit! Most are amazed, and only a little have or know of people that have house rabbits. From the newsletter, I will quote this: “You’ve planted three seeds of thought: Bunnies deserve the best; they have emotions; and humans care about them.”

Mocha, ouch! I had braces from 3rd-7th grade, and definitely remember the soreness/pain.

No Valentines plans here, hooray for being single! Studying as usual I suppose. Although even when I’ve been in a relationship I’ve always refused to treat February 14 as anything special at all…I don’t think I’ve ever been on a “Valentines’ date” or gotten special presents, etc. for the occasion.

I’m not sure what the BF and I are doing for Valentines Day. This will be our 2nd one together and last year he made me dinner (he’s a FABULOUS cook) and got chocolate and flowers for me! Who knows this year.

SkippersMama — I wonder if he’s a lot like my Tanger. Tanger is just hyper as heck and I really don’t think he means to nip as hard as he does but it REALLY hurts. He gets like all hyper and will come up and just lay one right into you and the squealing thing doesn’t work as it hurts so bad I usually scream out of shock and pain, LOL. I’ve had Tanger since May and NOTHING has helped with that boy. But it’s always when he’s happy and binkying around so I feel bad getting so angry about it now. Bah hum bug.

Hahaha! That’s exactly how Ian is Tanlover! xD I’m just so happy he’s enjoying his free run time. It kills me. The VP of the rescue was e-mailing me about how this is the first time Ian has ever been out of the rescue and his tiny cage that he had there. He was born in a different rescue before being brought to 4LilPigsnBuns. I feel really honored in a way that I got to see his first run in a house before but at the same time it totally breaks my heart. I really hope the energetic cutie finds a loving home.

Hi Skipper’s Mama, It’s credit card fraud… There are several ways it can be done either by hacking into a network like McDonalds and stealing their EFTPOS history (happened here and you could not EFTPOS at Macca’s without the risk, luckily it’s not somewhere I frequent but so many friends got hit and there details including their ATM card details were stolen and their bank accounts emptied) It can be also done by scanning the card with a remote camera at the ATM and recoring the keystrokes when you put in your pin. Years ago they would keep your credit card receipts and use the number to by things by phone or online which is why the 3 digit security code was introduced. It is a very nasty crime and highly prevalent right now as there are so many ways it can be done. You just need to be aware when using your card in any store or at any ATM. Check round the machine for anything unusual, the cameras can be tiny and hidden in panels placed above around or near the teller machines. If they are hacking directly into the store systems then the only way to avaoid it is not to use the card at the store or keep your balance minimal and just transfer funds in every few days like I do.

I’m probably doing nothing for Valentines day, mainly because my girlfriend’s currently in Tennessee with her mom, and her dad passed around this time last year, so it’s hard on her. I might buy her and my mom chocolate, and stuffed animals each, (I normally just get my mom something, this year I actually have someone to get stuff for) Maybe we’ll talk on skype for a bit and just do what we normally do (AKA take silly photos of each other and post them on facebook. lol) but that’s probably about it, since my girlfriend’s not going to be here physically.

Thanks Roberta. =] I’ve never heard it called card skimming before but something else. I wasn’t sure if it was the same. My mom has always been super paranoid about that stuff so when I first got my bank account she drilled into me to never use my card as debit and always credit. And to always cover the keypad at the bank ATM so that way if there are cameras they can’t see what you’re doing.

ive never used an ATM and i dont ever want a debit card. i have a 30k limit on the credit because its also used for business.
news reports said bank of america website was getting denial-of-service attacks yesterday afternoon, but it’s doubtful that they got it there.
i noticed 2 pending transactions yesterday evening. first was $1 for some AOL thing,, likely they were ‘testing’ the card number. then after they confirmed it worked, BAM! a $460 charge from a motorcycle accessory place in Charlotte, NC. no doubt there would have been a lot more if i hadnt checked last night and called them to dispute and cancel the card right away

new card will be here tuesday. im going to get a 2nd card number so i have 1 for online purchases/automatic billing, and one for physical store swipes.
for now i have to update my accounts with usps, fedex, ups, ebay, paypal, amazon, our website hosting, verizon, endicia postage, the pool guy, mesa utilities, and probably more i forgot, but they will contact me when they try to run the old number unsuccessfully.

Well, I don’t *think* I’ll be doing anything for Valentine’s day. Since my bf and I broke up  But might be a good thing because I was not having any idea of what to do for him this year. I think I used up all my creative ideas in the first 2 years (I’m very crafty!) 

Maybe I’ll just spend it with Mimzy and get her a little something Speaking of which, she hasn’t been too happy lately with me. She actually started scratching at my hands the other night while sweeping up her bottom level She’s never done that before, usually just tries to “help” me hehe. I’ve been trying to finish a painting which is why I haven’t been with her much (paint fumes) so I’ve been in the living room. It’s almost done though! Also can’t believe we are already a month in! Time, please slow down! Am not ready for the summer heat.

So the groundhog said we will have an early spring. The weather service was already predicting a warmer than average March and April though. The drought is supposed to continue. Not sure how that’s going to work for my little nature hikes. There won’t be any tadpoles to look at. =(

Hmmm, Just discovered my electric chocolate fondue set in a bag under the sunroom table… Too hot right now but I think I am going to have to put it to use. It even has a set of chocolate bunny molds. I wonder if I can make marshmallow bunnies that can be dipped in the chocolate… or honey comb bunnies !!!! I haven’t made honey comb in years.

No Valentine’s here as I’m happily single… I’m hoping though by then I might get a call about a possible new addition to my furry household.

I’m also a crafty person and when I read on a forum I’m part of they had what’s called a ‘Crochet-A-Long’, where we use the same pattern but use whatever yarn we want and share pictures of our hard work… I’ve only just started but I think it’s what I need right now as I’m in a depression rut which is really annoying me.

Today (well yesterday here now) was Tim’s 2nd gotcha day anniversary. : ) Brat! Hard to believe its been 2 years already. I got him coincidentally on Chinese New Year – year of the rabbit.
I bought some mats recently and have used one as a landing pad for him besides my bed. He thinks its a dance mat and has been pulling some moves. Lol
It’s nice to see. He hasn’t been as spunky since Jelly passed but I’m finally seeing him come back to normal.

Oh, Jersey! That’s a good idea! Haha! I was trying to figure out how I planned on Simber buns birthday since no one has much idea when he was born except that he’s around 2 years old. I know all my others birthdays so I never had a problem. I guess I’ll just celebrate the day we brought our little fluffer home. Hmmm, or maybe we should celebrate the day we officially adopted him? I’m not sure which one! We won’t be officially adopting until he’s bonded to the trio. So maybe I should just do the day we brought him home.

Today my BF and I are having a dinner party for the Superbowl! Well, only because it’s ON the Superbowl but absolutely NO Superbowl food is being served. I’ll post some pictures afterwards. I’m excited. All has drink pairings also! My BF is an amazing cook. And is always buying all these professional cooking and plating books. It’s like going out to a $100 one-person dinner every time he cooks! I love it.

I haven’t spun for a while, the depression has caused my motivation to take a deep dive. I also haven’t spun angora for almost a year, I can’t bring myself to spin what I harvested from Ash before her passing. Angora yarn can be used for almost anything but I wouldn’t suggest making a jumper out of it.

@Tanlover: yeah, I think the Gotcha day has more meaning. I gave TimTim estimated birthday of jan 1 as vet thought he was 4 wks when took him in for check after I got him. So bd was New Years, gotcha day was Chinese New Years.
I like how you’ve modified the name to Simber. Simber Bun sounds cute! It fits him.

Yes, very recent! We celebrated our 3 yr on Jan 25, and then broke up this past Thursday  (31st) We ran into a really big problem back in October and it just went downhill from there >.< Kept trying to get past it but it was an emotional roller coaster. Took a LOT out of me and I just was exhausted and everyone could see it. It was kind of crazy how the breakup came about though. I had been thinking all week that we needed to separate at least for a while to get back on our own feet separately. For some reason we couldn't do that together. So all week I was stressed and worried wondering how to tell him. I love and care about him a lot, didn't want to hurt him. Turns out he came to my house saying the exact same thing I had been contemplating all week! lol. But we are remaining friends, going to let God decide if we ever get back together or not! I think I did all my grieving in the past few months already though. Because I have not broken down yet or gotten really upset. 

And I’ve been painting pet portraits here and there. Just finished a tiger (which Mimzy got to & decided to chew the edges of and mess up!) Naughty bun   I had to patch it up with another piece of canvas and then re-paint it in those spots. No worries, she did not get sick! The paint is non-toxic and I kept an eye on her afterward to make sure everything was fine.

Tanlover: I know the difficulty trying to figure out a birthday xD I’m pretty sure Mimzy was born either late February or early March. So I’m trying to decide if I want to make up a bday, or have it be the day my (now ex) bf’s sister got her (April), or the day I got her(June)! lol. Sounds like a great dinner btw

So I was thinking to trying something new to sort of help me through all my confusion and stuff. It sounds weird, but I was hoping that if I had something to focus on it would help me not feel so overwhelmed by all my thesis woes. Anyway, I bought a book on knitting little things. I have never knit anything in my life, but I knew how to crochet when I was a kid. It says to use sock yarn for these projects. I went to Hobby Lobby the other day and the sock yarn is insanely expensive. It was $6 for this small ball of yarn. I was shocked. You need more than one color so just starting is going to cost more than I was hoping to spend. I don’t know where to look for cheaper yarn. Sadly, you could get balls of yarn for $2 or $3 when I was a kid.

For yarn – try thrift stores. People donate all kind of things. Including leftover yarn from bigger projects.

Jersey we plan on celebrating Skip’s Gotcha day too since we’ve been having a bear of a time trying to pinpoint her actual birthday. =p It’s so cute that TimTim’s Gotcha day is Chinese New Year! Do you give him his presents in a red envelope? ;P

Mimzy I’m totally jealous of how amazing your art skills. All I can draw are stick figures. =p I’m sorry to hear about the break up. I know they can be really hard especially when you love the other person so much. But just give yourself as much time as you need. When something big happens in a relationship it takes a while for a couple to work through. My boyfriend and I actually broke up a few years ago because of something he did and it took about a year and a half for me to work through and forgive him completely. It took a lot of apologizing on his part and me just learning how to trust him again. So just give yourself all the time you need and don’t rush it. =]

The bf and I are going through on Hulu and watching all the commercials from the Superbowl. =] We’re not football fans (I’m actually a massive hockey fan) and my bf worked yesterday. We really only watch it for the commercials. =p So far I’ve loved the Kia commercial about where babies come from it’s just too funny.

Thanks for the kind thoughts everyone, it’s just annoying because I want to do something but the motivation to do so just isn’t there. I see my doctor early next week so I’ll be asking for a referral to a psychologist and hopefully can get some help and advice on feeling better.

LBJ, I’m fussy now I won’t work with anything but wool or other natural fibres, I use to work with acrylic but when I learnt the textural difference I now won’t touch it. And unfortunately finding good yarn is hard and some of it can be expensive. Good luck in the yarn search

Hobby lobby has 40% off coupons if that helps. Unfortunately its “one coupon per person per purchase”
So I usually have a second person go with me if I need multiple items or just get what I need first, then make another trip another time.

Skippers mama – thank you for the encouragement I’m doing better with it than I thought I would so I’ve actually not been upset yet. I actually forgave him months ago but it was like I was trying to let it heal and then he would peel it back again >.< and that's what was exhausting for me.

I just had to post about how happy I am! My bunnies are allowed everywhere in our bedroom and I had gotten steps so they are able to jump up onto the bed if they want. Guinness our female bunny always jumps up onto our bed to see what’s going on but Harp our male bunny who is a little more skittish has never showed any desire to come onto the bed until today. At first he just came up the steps and peeked up over the side of the bed but after a few peeks he finally made the hop onto our bed. I’m so happy and excited, hopefully bunny cuddles are not far behind!

Toady sorry your going through such a difficult time. Just take it one day at a time. Depression is a hard thing to fight off like you said you just don’t have the motivation to do anything, but it does get easier you just have to take small steps and don’t get upset if you take a step back once in a while. Some days seem easier then others. My thoughts are with you!

it feels like its been Aaaaages since I’ve been on here. I’ve missed everyone!!! And I love seeing all the new faces! My laptop broke and I’ve been too lazy to take it in and get fixed. The buttons were always stuck and I could never pound out anything on the keyboard. So I wound up taking several keys off to clean underneath them all, and then sort of…los them. sigh I wonder how much that will be to fix? haha

I hope everyone is doing well! =] I’m dead and exhausted. xD The bf is killing me. He’s become super attached to little Ian. He really wants to adopt him. But Skippers really is not fond of him. *Sigh* I dunno what to do. =p I’m super excited I start my volunteering hours for school. It’ll help me tons if the school I’m volunteering at likes me. The schools down here like to help promote within. So if they like me, they’ll have me sub and get me permanent teaching job when I have my certificate. *Crossing fingers* That it goes well.

I’m wondering if teaching kids road rules and road sense has gone out the window? I live across the road from a cul-der-sac and at the moment there’s kids (oldest looks to be almost a teen) who ride some sort of home made trike down the hill but I’ve noticed them coming over to my driveway and riding ACROSS the road without any safety gear to get an extra ‘run up’ or something. It’s not a quiet road either so what the heck are they doing, other than tempting fate!?

On the bunny front I’m now having to look around to find bunny suitable hay, 95% of places here only stock lucerne (alfalfa) hay and try to sell dry old straw as ‘oat hay’ but it is obviously not. I don’t want to run out of the barley hay so I can start mixing the two together to prevent any tummy upsets

Most of their parents have no road sense and behave like morons so obviously they are going to do it too. It’s one way to scoop the algae off the top of the gene pool I suppose…
My pet supplier expressed concerns that we would have a hay shortage following the fires and the flooding. We could be seeing the first stages of that especially as you are in much closer proximity than those of us in WA. Although my supplier missed out on the entire delivery last week so I am about to phone them to make sure there is some in. If not I’m off to the stock feeders tomorrow to get a bale before all the stocks get bought up in a panic by the hobby farmers and horse people.

I haven’t been on in awhile!! I feel like I’ve missed soo much. I’ve been soooooo busy bonding I have no time to do anything else but sleep and go to work. So exhausting. Four bunnies is just A LOT of personality to mix together!

I have a few minutes as tonight, for anyone not following my thread on bonding my four, I’m spending all night with the buns being together in their box they’ve been bonding in. ha! It’s a large box and things are finally starting to take big turns! I think Simba is going to become the TOP BUNNY! Poor Fleury.

Hay wise the horse based feed store I got the barley hay from in August/September has some Rhodes Grass hay and some that has a bit of lucerne in it… might see if I can head up on Monday morning and grab a bale, don’t think I’ll have time to duck up tomorrow.

I ended up in urgent care this week for Ovarian Cysts. Blah. I am doing fine though, just on pain meds for a few days. The diva decided to wake me up by JUMPING onto the ovary that is hurting! Jeez brat!

My teacher allowed me extra days to get my workbook assignments done since I was in the hospital. He knows that I get my work turned in on time so he trusts me.

So I spent a good portion of the evening wrestling bunnies. Ugh, Wooly has refused to let me cut his claws lately. The back ones were getting pretty long. I finally got my husband to hold him while I did it, but I’m pretty sure I had already wore him out prior to that. It’s weird because it used to be Leopold that was the problem. Now I can just turn him over with his head pressed into my stomach and his little feet are up in the air just waiting for me to snip away.

Speaking of being depressed, I have been feeling that way again. I guess it just dawned on me and it made me sad. I like the stuff I am doing right now, but the sad reality is that it isn’t something I will be able to do forever. They don’t pay me enough or give me hardly any hours. I have been depressed because I have been looking for a job and I have been getting turned down time and time again. Now I am depressed because if I do find something, it might not be possible for me to stay where I’m at right now. It’s funny, in its own ironic sort of way.

They have been in their house for a day and a half now perfectly fine. I’m spending the night out in the living room with them tonight for one last make sure there’s no chasing or nipping episodes. Then I will trust them to be bonded!

Whelp, I will be going to “talk” to someone tomorrow. They will be offering a new internship this spring, but I am just going to visit with them about it. I feel really weird about it though. It is almost a guilty feeling. I feel as though I am becoming more established with things and, despite the fact that I am not scheduled for hardly any hours, it still feels like a betrayal. Oh well, I’m sure it won’t amount to anything anyway. I mean, I am talking to one of the people that interviewed me almost a year ago for another internship. But I doubt that would do anything to help me. =\

Gosh, now I feel bad again because I’m bringing up my problems and insecurities here. I wish I had someone to talk to about all these things.

Don’t feel guilty about seeking to better your life. You aren’t exactly happy with your life as it is, and finding a career in a field you enjoy isn’t betrayal. It’s good to seek to better yourself and your life, don’t let yourself be your own worst enemy in this.

Speaking of your own worst enemy, I think that may be what is holding you back with interviews and such… you make yourself think you won’t get it anyway, so don’t put out hte confidence that many of the jobs will require, thus leading them to not hire you… it’s a vicious cycle, and only you can break it. Start each day with a positive thought about yourself, and that can help lead you to feeling better about everything about you. Only you can make yourself feel better.

You’re so sweet Monkeybun. =) I do like where I am. They have done so much to try to help me get some experience in my field. It’s just not practical to only get 8-12 hours a week. I have my retail job still, but it isn’t doing anything to help me. That is why I feel guilty though, since they have done so much to try to help me. If I got this new job, I would probably still want to work there. That would mean I would need to quit my retail job. You’re probably right about the whole sabotage thing. I tend to get nervous and say the wrong things. I think I did okay today. He did bring up the person that got the original job I had applied for a year ago. He said the person hired for this position would have to work with that person. Not that that should bother me. It just makes me wonder why they would choose me for this position if they didn’t want to hire me for the other position. I’m afraid I will get the same excuse as last time. They told me that since I am a grad student I am more of a flight risk.

Tomorrow is gonna be such a busy day! Hell, today has been busy! I didn’t go to school because I had to go to a doc’s appointment. I’m allergic to one of my new soaps o_O;; So I stopped that and am taking a corticosteroid for 5 days. The medication seems to be working. After the doctor, my dad and I went grocery shopping. I treated myself to lunch at a family owned organic market. I got myself a huge salad with vegan Caesar dressing!

My dad requested that I make him and his girlfriend this cashew cheese pasta sauce (vegan and delicious! tastes like alfredo sauce without the guilt). I made the batter for bunny cookies and the cookies are in the oven. I have vegan sugar cookie dough in the fridge o_O;; I didn’t realize that the recipe I went off of would make such a huge batch, so I’m going to take cookies with me tomorrow when I take my donations to the shelter bunnies!!!! I’m so excited!

My dad and I are going to the feed store to pick up 2 bales of 2nd cut Orchard Grass (One for Chacha, one for the shelter babies and guinea pigs), and hang out at the shelter for 30 minutes or so. Tomorrow is going to be the best Valentine’s Day! I’m going to ask the volunteers if I can feed the bunnies the cookies that I made just for them They need some loving.

I tell the rabbits I love them. My husband thinks I’m weird. I will tell each of them I love them when I put them to bed and I tell them to be good. Does anyone else do that? Or am I being silly? FYI, I tell the dog I love her too.

Just thinking we had not heard from Bunnygirl and Apollo this week… But then the weather here has been appalling due to the hot days and school only started back a couple of weeks ago… If you are out there Bunnygirl WAVE so we know you are OK….

My day at the shelter was so fun! One of my friends is a volunteer and got me into the shelter before opening time. When I went into SPAM-a lot (the name of the bunny room), there was an x-pen separating the middle and a bun on each side getting some run time in. One of the volunteers was cleaning up bunny houses while the buns were getting run time.

 This little one was running around when I got there: 

His name is Starksy and he is a very young neutered male. He is so full of energy and so active!! So different from my Chacha bun He was running around and chinning the broom and dustpan! When I put my hand down on his head to give him pets, he absolutely melted He was fine being held until I asked my friend to take a photo of me with him

 

 I noticed that the other bunny on the other side of the x-pen had nails that needed trimming. I informed my volunteer friend and we went into another room to do his nails. He was very calm about the whole thing. The volunteer even let me clip nails! She said not many bunny volunteers clip nails… I told her that when I finish school in June and find better transportation, I would definitely volunteer and do bunny grooms, nail trims, and scent gland cleaning. She seemed very happy about it.

 

It was hard to leave the shelter. I walked to each bunny and told them, “I hope you get a nice warm home with attentive slaves that spoil you.” When I got into the car, I began to cry. It hurts to see so many homeless rabbits. The bunnies all have such unique personalities that I have a feeling that they will go to good homes.  I would take Chacha out to meet those boy bunnies (and even allow her to meet Starsky) immediately, but it isn’t realistic right now. Chacha will get her chance to pick a friend when I feel I can support 2 bunnies and have much more time to bond

I know it was probably bittersweet visiting. But remember, bunnies like routine and security and they would be getting that at the shelter. Yes, their lives aren’t all they could be but I think they would have a level of contentment there. I do understand you though. It’s terribly sad to think of how animals come to be in shelters. The reason why we need shelters is depressing but thank goodness there are so many good ones and amazing, dedicated people that keep them operating.

This was weird, but I found myself looking for those jumbo sized beads that are the ball and stick that you join together. I had some as a kid and I thought they would make a good visual display for neck bones. Now I can’t find them anywhere. *sigh* The strange things I find myself looking for these days.

 

So they are predicting a large portion of the US is going to get hit with a crap ton of snow by the end of the week. They are talking over a foot in a lot of locations. I think I’m going to cry. I am so ready for spring and it was so nice outside today (60F).

ChaCha – He’s such a cute little guy! I have a hard time visiting shelters…I just want to take all of the animals home! lol. Starsky & ChaCha definitely does have something to it

So yesterday I went to petco and came across a package of plastic balls in the ferret section and they just sounded like fun to put in Mimzy’s little fold up cube. My friend was over at my house and wanted to see how Mimzy likes them. Unfortunately it went pretty bad   He’s used to dogs so anytime he plays with Mimzy, he’s usually pretty good with her, I just have to remind him not to do certain things & be gentle occasionally. It really upset me the way he was trying to play with her. She even started scratching at me and growling at me. So when he finally left the room, I went to give her lots of head rubs and calm her down. Once he left she seemed alright and was no longer angry at me. I think it was just in the moment she was frustrated My poor girl!

But I did talk to him about it and he seemed very sorry. Hopefully he will stop, otherwise, I’ll have to tell him I don’t want him playing with her anymore!

I am so upset. Today I found out the shelter where I have been volunteering split up a bonded pair of bunnies because someone wanted one and not both of them. I’m really just horrified and trying to think of a professional way to address the situation to kindly say thats horrifying to me. Their rationale was it takes longer for the bonded pairs to be adopted so we may as well get rid of one instead of none. Totally wrong. And I’m sure they never told the family it’s very likely their poor new bunny will be depressed and feel anti-social to them now… ugh. Totally flustered for these poor bunnies.

tanlover – Is the rescue overly full? I wonder what would make them think they needed to do that. And who are they people that adopted the single bun? Seems like an appropriate choice of an adopter (by the rescue) would be someone that understands what a bonded pair means and would not have the heart to break them up.

So it’s really sunny out right now. It is colder than it has been, but still very sunny. Not a cloud in the sky. I can’t believe it is supposed to snow as much as they are saying it is going to.

The 2013 Extra Life event date was announced today. Its an event to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network, and local hospitals. I participate every year, and gather donations to benefit the kids. It’s tons of fun, 24 hours straight of gaming November 2nd, save the date!

My eventful thing of the day was running my first red light. >.< I'm always such a good driver (speed a little too much than I should, but still good!) normally. I'm a little miffed I let myself run the light. I'm just hoping that the light hasn't been upgraded to a camera light! I would be deaddddd if it was. It was funny though. I ran into my regular grocery store for bun veggies and the cashier remembered me! It totally cracked me up because she knew I was grabbing bun veggies. xD

It’s cloudy today. That just makes me sleepy. =( They pushed the snow storm back a little bit, so nothing should be happening at all today. Tomorrow though. *sigh*

I had a nice time last night. Took an owl to school. Everyone was really nice this time. It was a much better set up. No kids rushing the table and trying to grab at the bird. The last time was awful, so I’m glad things went so well last night.

Right now I am hoping to get some reading done. I have been running around practically non-stop it seems. And then when I am home, I for some reason find myself here. LOL

It really is heart breaking. I’m heading down there right now to fill some foster food bags, to check on Bubbles (the broken bond mate), and to give them all a toilet paper roll filled with orchard grass in their cages. I also have to take some new pictures of a couple of Newbies for the website! I love being able to make good adoption photos for them.

Yeah, so I didn’t get anything done today. Thought I would do some reading. Did not happen. Instead I found myself at the grocery fighting through crowds of crazed people who thought they needed to buy a bunch of stuff before it snowed. Not fun. Especially when people in front of you just stop in the middle of the aisle and sit there. Why do they do that?! Agh!

I stayed home all day today. I didn’t need to be anywhere, so I didn’t want to fight the weather. It isn’t as bad as they said it was going to be, but I still don’t think they are in a big hurry to plow and such. We did do some snow removal before it got dark, but we’re still supposed to pick up some more over night.

Since we stayed home all day, I decided to cook something for real for dinner (I’m a terrible cook). I decided to make spaghetti and some cheese bread. Things didn’t got well, but it wasn’t my fault this time. For some reason, the oven blew its fuse twice while I was trying to cook. Twice! The first time I had the oven preheating for the cheese bread, the water boiling for the pasta, and the sauce cooking in a skillet. The fuse blew and my husband reset it. Okay, three things going at once was apparently too much (never was before!). So I turned off the sauce so I could cook the pasta and started preheating the oven again. And the fuse blew again. Okay, two things going on at once was too much too. This really worries me because we had problems with the oven not heating correctly over Christmas and I ruined a ton of cookies. =\

Wowza. I can’t believe I am almost done with this school quarter. Next quarter is my Externship, which means I will be in a clinic 40 hours a week, putting my skills to use It is going to be rough since I will only be working on weekends, but it is very much worth it.

I’m attending VegFest in March, and it falls nicely during spring break! So it will be a good day to stuff my face with samples and get new ideas for meals! I had a craving for pancakes yesterday night, so I looked up a recipe for pancakes and made myself vegan pancakes, and added chocolate chips. Holy crap — the pancakes came out so light, fluffy, moist, AND sweet! Some bananas I have set aside are already rotten and ready to make into banana flax seed muffins

Since one of my classes requires a 3 hour seminar a few Saturdays from now, it required me to take the day off from work. After the seminar is over, I plan to take Chacha to the Bunny and Guinea Pig Spa Day at the humane society. She will be getting a pawdicure and groom. I will also be purchasing some toys for her (the money goes to the shelter) and attending the seminar “The Language of Lagomorphs: What your bunny is telling you.”

Rain, rain, go away!!!! For the second time in literally a month we’ve got torrential rain, although this time it’s blowing in from the west meaning that I can keep the front doors open so there’s still air flowing inside the house. The bunnies and kitties don’t seem to care but a bit is blowing in the laundry where Darcy my cocker spaniel lives, he’s fine but I know he hates trying to go outside and do his business out here. At least it’ll hopefully the worst of it will be gone by this time tomorrow

OY! This shelter is really pushing my buttons…

So my friend and I went there yesterday to volunteer. As you know, they had recently separated a bonded pair. Thankfully the bunny left seemed to be doing okay and was active, eating, and didn’t seem depressed. I gave her lots of attention and played with a toilet paper roll with her, cuddled her, and rubbed her head which she seemed to love. So all seems to be as okay as can be in that neighborhood… BUT when I first came into the shelter, I set my stuff in the volunteer room, and headed to the bunny room. On the way there I noticed someone was looking at some bun buns with a vet tech in one of the cat rooms (they have glass for walls so you can see inside when you walk by). I didn’t really give it a 2nd thought. I noticed they had Honey Bunny then another bun Cabbage in there afterwards. So I got out an x-pen and went to see Honey Bunny as I needed a new picture of her for the adoption website. When I opened her cage door, she lunged, growled, and nipped as well as boxed her paws at me every time I’d even stick my hand in there… which she has NEVER done before. I was in shock really… but I put my hand over her eyes, and scooped her into my arms. She really enjoys being held so I held her and rubbed her head between her ears while she snuggled into me. I noticed she was all shaken up and nervous when I first started holding her and couldn’t figure out what was wrong. So while I was with her in the x-pen, the vet tech comes in holding Cabbage in a HORRIBLE way. Like he was a child or something. Not supporting ANY of his feet and holding him with one arm. I was astonished. She then pushed him in his cage and said to me “I hate rabbits. I’m terrified of them which is funny because I’m not scared of a 150 lb. dog”. She may have thought that was funny… but needless to say, I did not. While I stewed in my rage, the couple that had been in the room with her looking at the bunnies wandered back into the bunny room where I was and was looking at the buns more. So I asked them if they were interested in adopting a bun and they said they really were and they had two absolute favorites but as the bunnies were anti-social and skittish and nippy they werent sure. So I asked them who. And she said Honey Bunny and another bunny named JoJo who also LOVES snuggles. They were shocked Honey Bunny was just laying in my arms cuddling and giving me kisses so I showed them how to properly hold her and BOOM, she was snuggling with the couple. They were literally in shock since they said she was acting like a totally different bunny now… so I instantly got the impression that the vet tech had simply terrified the daylights out of Honey Bunny prompting her aggressive behavior. So after all this happened… I overheard ANOTHER staff member telling another animal volunteer that rabbits are horrible pets and they are nothing like cats and dogs and don’t come up to see you or do anything but sleep around all day. With AN ADOPTER IN THE ROOM. WHAT ARE THESE PEOPLES PROBLEMS??! I almost went out there and tore her a new one but instead said to the adopters, I’m sorry.. a lot of people here don’t know a whole lot about rabbits which is why us volunteers come in as much as possible to socialize with the buns and get them out for some run time. The couple was instantly like.. we could get that impression easily from the staff. About an hour later, another person told me that Honey Bunny was an aggressive and vicious bunny. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I would bite at your dumb a** if you held me like a moron too! I’m so worked up about it so I wrote an email to one of the head people asking to come in and discuss the “rabbit situation” as I can tell not many people (if any) know anything about rabbits or how to properly care them. It doesn’t take much time or money to TEACH the staff how to properly hold a rabbit as well as the fact that they NEED hay at all times (as this is the 3rd time I’ve realized they were almost all without hay). I am sick of hearing how these bunnies are so “vicious” and “cage aggressive”. This is the same rescue that was going to euthanize Simba for cage aggression before he was taken by another rescue Rabbit Wranglers for rehabilitation. Thankfully this rescue takes almost every rabbitt hat has a behavior issue off this rescues hands so they arent at risk of being put down. My blood has been boiling. I feel this so called aggressive behavior is the STAFFs fault and has nothing to really do with the bunnies. I contacted the lady I acquired Simba from (who runs the Rabbit Wranglers rescue) to talk to her about the problem and she put me in contact with a lady at the Humane Society who she said would take care of these problems and to just discuss what I witnessed with her. So I’m scheduling an appt with this lady to go down there and talk to them about these problems that need to desperately be fixed.

On another note, my boyfriend has been gone at a conference in DC all week… so I’ve been home alone with only the bun buns to keep me company! So I’ve been letting them free-roam at night and I sleep with them! Okay, well Simba as all the others were doing Binky 500s over my head and Tanger kept yanking on my pillow trying to steal it. My calm Simber Bun just laid next to my pillow almost the whole night and Fleury eventually joined him since that’s where I found him when I woke up in the morning!

ChaCha – We had a VegFest thing here last fall. It was so ridiculously cold outside. LOL I was there, but I didn’t get to look at a lot of stuff since I was there representing my nature center. There was some pretty cool stuff though. You can discover a lot of new things or at least new ways to use old things in your recipes.

Toady – That sounds like a lot of rain. I guess you have more of a wet season/dry season there, don’t you?

Tanlover – Wow, that is really sad considering these people are being paid to help these rabbits. If things don’t change, I don’t see how you could stand volunteering there. I mean, if it were me I wouldn’t be able to stand being angry every time I went in there. Is there another place you can volunteer?

I expressed in the email that I wrote to them that the ONLY reason I’m still volunteering is because these rabbits need someone to be their voice. Things need to change and I will not get off their butts until it does. I have no problem contacting some higher up in the Humane Society chain and explaining what is going on if no one at the actual shelter will listen to me.

It’s one thing you know to not be rabbit-savvy, to not understand a whole lot about their behaviors. But it’s WAY past that point. No receiving hay, being handled improperly (last time I knew a vet tech SHOULD KNOW how to pick up a damn bunny), being demeaned in front of potential adopters, and making them aggressive to the point no one will even WANT to adopt them. Hopefully I get a response back soon.

LBJ – As I live over half way down the coast of Australia I wouldn’t say we have a wet/dry season, we always have got most of our rain during the summer months but this is just a joke, some places nearby have had over 10 inches of water since this began less than 48 hours ago. Thankfully nothing has blown over with this crazy wind but we have had worse flooding than 4 weeks ago, I’ll try to get some photos… if the rain settles any

Things are lovely and green thanks to the flood this time last month, before that flood it was getting all dry and brown. I’ve seen it up past where that shed now sits, it’s a strange flood because it has flooded down town but the low bridge to the north of this swamp was still open when I took the photos and usually it goes under first.

Unfortunately it also means that because of this the markets that I usually get my vegies from won’t be on due to the flooding and because the highway is now cut in several places there won’t be many trucks with food coming in any time soon… so instead of their usual I might be stuck with chicory and the celery that’s in the fridge.

Jerseygirl – hahaha!!! I think I am toooo. But I feel like my concerns aren’t concerns that will cost them anything to fix. And things that should already be implemented anyways! But it turns out, the lady who runs this Humane Society here wants me to come in so we address/talk about my concerns. Apparently she is a VERY big rabbit person and this Humane Society for the first rabbit shelter in the area when they first opened. She sounds really nice and like she really wants to fix the problem, it’s just no one has brought it to her attention. She’s kind of irked with the staff, I got the impression, because she told me how they had a Bunny 101 crash course in how to care for/handle rabbits about 6-9 months ago so the staff wouldn’t be so rabbit dumb. LOL. I’m glad she is going to listen to my concerns and take action, so I’m meeting with her sometime next week.

Oh god, Roberta! I WANT TO MAKE THOSE COOKIES SOOO BAD! They look amazing. Maybe sometime soon I will get enough time and effort to try and make these for the boy!

When I was little, my mom would make muffins for breakfast. I really miss it, so I decided to search the interwebs for muffins. I am very fond of cooking and baking blogs, plus the reviews mean a lot to me.

 

I found a really delicious muffin recipe and it worked:

Banana flax seed muffin, made with whole wheat flour. It is a vegan recipe of course! The muffins even have cinnamon and chopped walnuts! DELICIOUS !

Oh poor Wooly. First my husband was using a huge concrete saw down in the basement. Now he’s using a jackhammer. I checked on them and they seemed fine. Wooly had this weird look on his face though like “what the heck is that?”. They are locked in their room because this cloud of dust is coming up through the “floor” in the living room. Oh yes, did I mention part of the floor is missing in the living room? You can see down into the basement. It’s not a hole, just the wood flooring was taken up and it is just the decking. But there are gaps between the decking so you can see right down there.

Roberta I’ve been dying to try to make those for forever now! They look so cute! But I always worry that if I make them they’ll be too cute to eat. 

We went to the bunny adoption event at our local rescue and came home with another addition.  So it looks like we’re going to have a trio.  I’m so excited. I so hope this works out.

K, so I put towels down to try to cover the holes in the floor and the air purifier is running on full blast. Hopefully the rabbits will be okay. Oh goodness, SkippersMama! It’s like I started an epidemic of bunny herds!!!! LOLOL. First me, then Amy got another for a trio, and NOW YOU! Hahahhaha. I love that you guys are both bonding to create a trio! There’s seriously NOTHING better than watching your little gang of rug rats play and groom and love on each other. It seriously warms my heart every time I look at them all.

Good for you! My zero bunnies trend doesn’t really seem to be catching on, but I guess that’s a good thing.

Tanlover lol! It really was the bf that made the final decision as to how many we had. We went to the bonding event and put Ian in his pen that they had set up for him to wait in while the speed dates would be going on. The bf turned to me and was like, “We can’t leave him here. He’d be staying in that tiny pen until he gets adopted. He’s coming home with us.”  He cracks me up! So we went to have dates with Skipper and Ian and swapped different boy buns out to see how they reacted. The rescue has a had time adopting out boy buns. So we wanted to adopt another boy to try to give him home. 

I’m trying to design a new cage for the trio (whenever they bond) to move into at a later date. I’ve been searching the forum’s and looking at everyone’s cage designs for ideas.  I’m going crazy trying to figure it out how to design it.  Oh well, I’ll figure it out.

I am so tired, I haven’t been home all day. I was excited because I was on an adventure today, learning how to do some new things. It was fun, but it involved feeding animals. They want to have me do it on a regular basis. I was okay doing it, but.. well, let’s just say you guys don’t want to know what was on the menu for the eagle. =\

Oh gosh I am tired. I don’t know how I’m going to get up tomorrow. I have been having trouble going to sleep at night, even though I’m tired. I’m thinking it will start catching up with me here some time soon.

Well, Finally the meeting is set-up! I’m going to be going to the Humane Society tomorrow at noon to talk about the problems I’ve been witnessing! I’m obviously going early also so I can play and say hello to the bunnies!

Simba was just cleaning himself and I think he got lost in all his fur because he toppled over backwards. LOL. Silly bun.

I’m so crazy in love with him. <3 <3 And all the others of course. He's such a little fuzzball though! And his litter box habits are PERFECT. And he doesn't chew on the carpet unless he's mad. AND he loves to snuggle. <3<3 I finally have a GOOD bunny to go along with my crazy little devils! Although, I love my crazy little devils tooo. When I've been cuddling Simba I get the big urge to go and run and play with the Tans. LOL.

LOL, the bunny bread turned out to look like cat bread!

Chacha bunny tried out a new vegetable today and liked it! I saw Chinese Celery at the Asian market. I bought only a few pieces since her highness is known to be very picky. I washed one strand of the celery and gave it to her — she ate it right up! I clapped and she gave me a dirty look :p lol

I decided to make a ‘toy’ for Loki when he free ranges around the study – stuff a paper bag (thanks Red Rooster) full of hay and leave it on the floor so he can get into it, rip or eat a hole in it. He’s found the layer of grassy hay I stuffed between the oat hay.

Just under 90 minutes til I go to my ‘Graduation Ceremony’ for the course I did late last year. Really should have a shower and get myself ready
