Favoring Hind Foot; no obvious pain

Odette started favoring her left hind foot last night. She is eating, drinking water, and pooping fine. No hunching and no sign of pain. She ran around the room like a crazy bunny this morning binkying and flying through the air. I don’t know how she is doing that with a hurt foot. She is coming when called. Nothing is unusual in her behavior. But, she intermiddently holds that foot up while walking. She mostly holds the foot up, but sometimes she hops normal.

I checked her foot, toes, and pad as well as she would let me. I see nothing odd and no blood from a torn nail. She does have a knuckle that looks big– like that foot is spread by the toe joint. Its not pronounced though, so she might have looked that way before. She’s growing (16 weeks old), so it’s hard to know what is normal. I know favoring the foot isn’t normal. Also, she is licking the foot a lot, so that makes me think there is an injury.

I have an appointment with the vet first thing Saturday (tomorrow) morning. But I know many of you have seen it all. Does this sound like anything specific? I don’t understand the favoring the foot without pain. I’m worried its neurological, but I see no other signs.

I haven’t confined her because she doesn’t seem to be hurting and when I cage her, she will hold her bathroom business until she is let out. Her cage is big enough for a litter box, but she still holds it until she gets out. So, I’ve let her continue free range. She sleeps during the day anyway.

I’m wondering if it’s a sprain or a fractured toe… The vet will probably be able to help with some Metacam to manage the discomfort while it heals. (((Hoppy feet, bunbun Odette)))

A sprain or fractured toe makes sense, Q8bunny. I thought of a dislocated toe or a nail problem, but I didn’t think of those. She could walk on a sprain or fractured toe, so that fits.

And, that will help me sleep without worrying until her appointment in four and a half hours.

Edited to add: She is running around, binkying, asking for her romaine. She is not slowed down at all.

In Chewie’s professional opinion, that’s a great sign!

Chewie is absolutely right! The vet thinks she stubbed her toe. There are no breaks. Her nails are too short to trim. Everything was great. He said she just needed time to heal. He didn’t even think she had a muscle tear because she let him manipulate her foot, toes, and leg without jumping. He said maybe a bruise.

She did great. I am one relieved bunny person! Thank you both for your support. I was so worried. Odette is happily munching on romaine and I’m off soon to buy her fleece for a fleece forest!
