False Preganancy or Real….

Tsuki and Kovu (a lionhead I adopted from this pregnant girl at work) were left alone by my fiancee’s parents when our downstairs flooded while we were working. Sadly, his dad filled the pool to the top and it rained hardcore for 2 days. The house lies on a downhill from the pool and the only thing keeping water out is a sliding glass door (not effective at all-we now bought a sub-pump if this issue happens again)  They did not know that Kovu wasn’t fixed, which is why he is in Tsuki’s old dog crate, and they put her in with him because she kept playing in the water while they were cleaning. This was about the beginning of June. On Monday she started nesting hardcore and she’s been moody for a good week or so (nipping me randomly when I pet her or getting defensive around her tummy and butt-she was never like that before) and has had a huge appetite increase until recently. I have no idea whether this is a false pregnancy or a very real one. I tried to feel her tummy when she lets me, but I don’t feel any babies or anything. My vet is sending me info through the mail if it’s real, but I don’t know what to do if it’s false. 

Will she be ok, is there any signs I need to look for, is there anyway to really tell the difference. I’m hoping this is false because I never wanted to breed (all of mine except for 2 were adoptions/saves) her since she had pasturella when I brought her home. I know there is a policy about talking about breeding and if this post is deleted I do understand (this is actually why I waited to post anything- I don’t want to get the ban hammer!) I have plans to fix Kovu once my wedding is over in September so he can finally be bonded to her or my other two and not be by his lonesome. 

Sorry for rambling, my nerves have been on edge since Monday.

I’d hazard a guess that she’s probably pregnant.
Gestation period is 30 days, and the only real way to tell is to wait and see if she has babies! Do you know when it was they were together?

I understand you didn’t mean for this to happen, but you really need to get them (her especially) fixed. It’s vital for a female bunny’s health.
There are one or two people with experience with this on the forum, but most of us don’t know anything about it, so you may find this thread gets locked.

If it’s a false pregnancy then you just have to wait for it to pass – she’ll be cranky I’m sure.

If she is pregnant and it is a high possibility she is then I imagine you will know soon….how old is she?

Tsuki is about 1yr 4months. Kovu, I’m not sure. If I had to hazard a guess 6-8 months (I’ve had him for 1month now). My plan was to get them fixed after September since money’s been tight with everything winding down for the wedding. They are both def. not fixed. This happened maybe the 1st or 2nd week of June, so the timing is right I guess..
Since you guys say if it’s false it’ll pass I do feel better about that! (Thanks!!)
I guess I’m just worried that if it isn’t false if her babies will have pasturella like she did (I keep their area super clean) even though she’s been cleared for almost a year now. That and what if I think it’s false and for some reason it wasn’t, but she never induced labor. Sadly, my vet is 30 mins away and closes at 7pm and the closest animal hospital doesn’t deal with rabbits on a regular basis, so they only have one Dr available Tues/Thurs nights. Uggggh, the waiting is killing me

Well it is possible that the babies will have – many rabbits do have pasturella but are not symptomatic – it’s the same with E Cunniculi…most rabbits are carriers of this as well.

I imagine if she has the babies she will figure this out herself. That’s always been the case that I’ve seen. I’m hoping it is false but be prepared just in case. The babies do need to be kept warm and that is why she will build a nest.

Thank you guys again for your encouragement and information everyone. I guess I’ll keep you guys posted within the next week or so.
If they have pasturella, would she cull them (so to speak) herself or would they “go” on their own. I know when I was doing my research a lot of people said when a litter is born with it they cull the whole litter. If push came to shove I don’t think I’d have it in me to cull any animal, especially a pet.

She also started digging this whole about 2 weeks ago, ever since Monday she scratches at the window to get outside. I haven’t let her out to dig more. Do you think it’s just natural instincts or another sign of pregnancy?

If you suspect she is pregnant then I would not allow her outside – most likely she is going to have the babies and you are not going to know if she ends up being pregnant.

Most rabbits do love to dig in the dirt so that is not necessarily a sign of pregnancy.

Well, it’s been a week and no bunny babies. I think it’s pretty safe to say it was a false pregnancy! Plus her mood has improved so much, I’m glad to have my best friend back to follow me around the house for pets and play!
