eyesight

We have a dining table with 4 chairs squished up against a coffee table.  Cotton maneuvers it quite well not running into things. 

When I go to catch him to brush him and take him outside for a run I put up the shorter xpen which is black to block him from   going back under the table once I get him out from there. 

He goes on the other side of the xpen which is black.  Twice he has ran into it trying to get back under the table.  He wasn’t going fast. I assume its cuz its black and we have a green rug throughtout the living room and it is dark under that table. 

Outside yesterday He ran into a 4 inch thick tree.  He has never done this before. Then he explored that area which he had not explored before. I know  they can’t see directly in front of their face.  

I am wondering if he is developing eyesignt issues.  He is 7 now. Still young n healthy with lots of energy. Still a great jumper. Still binkys.  I will let him run near the river by the dock from now on. He is more comfortable there I believe and has more shade. The trees are big and he sees them clearly. 

HE has never ran into anything outside before.  He doesn’t run into the legs of the table or chairs and they are close together.  He maneuvers them perfectly. Which leads me to think his vision is fine. 

Has anyone else’s bunny done this and not have had vision problems?

Hi bunnytowne! I’ve never had this experience with a bunny (as you know Henry is only a year old), but I have with my dog’s. And it’s all just an old age thing for them. One thing I have noticed with them is sorta what you described above with Cotton…. the dog’s can seem to manoeuvre around the things they are familiar with and are up close to – but anything at a distance or they aren’t familiar with often gets run into. Maybe this is what’s happening with Cotton too? Don’t you just hate getting old??? LOL! And my 15 year old dog who is blind AND deaf as still does a ‘puppy’ dance when it is treat time! Except for her appearance (she does look old) you’d never guess she is 15! IF Cotton has a vision problem? how wonderful he is still energetic, healthy and most importantly – happy! He’s such a gorgeous boy! Cheers BT.

I think maybe he was scared and panicked.  He ran and when he is scared runs into stuff.  The xpen I can see running into.   Or maybe it is eyesight. The unfamiliar.  That small tree he never explored there.  

At the time a car had passed by but we were not near the dead end road we live on.  Besides there is parking between us and the road.  Plus grassy area big enuf for him to run.  

I don’t know.  Hope it doesn’t get worse if it is eyesight.  

Yes I need reading glasses to read these days.  Maybe Cotton needs some too.  If he panicked he didn’t run like he usually does.
