  Hey all,
  
  My flemish giant had conjunctivitis and has started antibioitic ointment from yesterday morning.
  
  He initially had a gunky closed eye, but after treatment (continuing until the tube of antibiotic ointment is out) he now has a clear eye, but it is still rather swollen.
  
  He will open it fully when active, but when resting he chooses to keep it mostly shut.
  
  I just wanted to ask for others that have treated pink eye – how long does it usually take after the gunk (and bacterial infection) is all gone for the swelling to go down?
  
  Thanks in advance! I’m sure he will be fine, but I am just nervous and wanted some advice based on experience.

  It’s probably irritated. Of course, I’ve never had luck with ointments in the eye. Drops are easier, IMO. Since it’s only been a day and a half, I wouldn’t worry too much. The swelling should start to go down after a few days, I would think. I suppose you could try a NSAID, if the vet will prescribe Metacam or something.
