Hello I am a new rabbit owner and I have a 7 year old bunny with a white eye Discharge. The white discharge is thick n sticks to his fur like a booger. He also requires yearly dental checks due to his lower incisors needing a trim. I have only had him a year and the discharge didnt become noticeable until after his partner died. I have already tsken him to the vet twice. First time she said it was the snuffles but he has no sneezing. Thesecond time she said that he is an old bunny and he will probably have this the rest of his life. I have been cleaning his eyes with a damp washcloth and he seems to be ok except he is starting to loose fur around his eyes. A friend told me to use vasaline on the fur but I am going to stop because as soon as I put it on he rubs it right off. Should I try a different vet and get a second opinion? Or should I keep cleaning his eyes at home? I notice they are the worst right after I clean his room. Also sorry for the spelling im doing this from my phone.

Did this vet do any x-rays or any cultures – anything at all? Or just make a random diagnosis…if that is the case, I would seek a second opinion.

No x-rays or cultures. She had me use antibiotics twice. It would seem to clear up but what ever it is it keeps coming back. Should I ask her to do a culture on him or try a different vet entirely?

I would get a second opinion if you can. Your vet was not very thorough. She should have suggested trying to determine the cause. It could be something like Pasteurella (which a culture would determine) or something going on behind the eye (X-ray). I hope you can figure it out soon.

I am going to try one more time with this vet. She came recommended from the rescue I bought him from so I do not know why she wasn’t thorough the second time I came back with the same problem. This time I will be more assertive with finding out exactly what he has.
