Hi everyone, I’ve asked a little about this before but I wanted to hear from those of you who have supervised free-range rabbits now that I’ve been working on it for a while. I got Olaf at 5-6 months old and he has been amazing with litter training. He came to me naturally favoring his box and in the past 2 1/2 months has used it exclusively, even after his neuter and the post-neuter craze. He is now 7-8 months old.
He has a large C&C condo and an attached x-pen. He goes back into his cage to use the litter box 100%. I have expanded the pen a few times to use it as a fence and give him half of my small livingroom (bunny-proofed). Still goes into the cage to use his box. :]
In terms of gradually expanding to the whole livingoom, is he too young to have that much space? He is really good about exploring for the most part, not chewing or digging. But in one instance he seemed overwhelmed by the large amount of space, running around before going catatonic for a while with big eyes. Almost like he couldn’t handle it.
I’ve gone back to using the cage and pen setup. Tips on gradually expanding or the age range when you bun was mature enough to handle being a supervised free-roamer?
