Hi – I am a first-time bunny owner and just brought home 3 month old Simba yesterday. I am setting up a pen habitat for him but the gate is en route for delivery later this week. In the meantime he is being kept in a smaller area and my house isn’t bunny proofed for him to run around yet. I got him some toys but I’m worried he won’t get enough exercise and playtime. He’s very calm, curious and sweet. Even though he does seem nervous from being in a new place with new faces, he hasn’t been super cautious or defensive to my presence.

Would he be okay lacking exercise and playtime in a bigger space for about a week? Or can anyone give me suggestions on what I can do to give Simba some playtime? I have an open kitchen so I couldn’t just get a small gate to block off an opening to at least let him run around there… and being a new bunny owner, I’m not confident enough to let him play outdoors (nor am I sure if that is even a good idea…). Any advice is greatly appreciated!

If it is just for a week, then I would say that is fine. The smaller space may also help him feel more confident in his new home.

It’ll be fine for a week, try and bunny proof a space ASAP so e can burn off some of his energy and explore his new home

A week will be ok. When I’m out of town, my bunnies are looked after, but generally get minimal time out of their enclosure (maybe 15min per day) and they are fine.

Are there any other rooms in your house that are minimally furnished? Bedrooms are often good, with just a bed and dresser and you could temporarily unplug any lamps. A bathroom could work too.

Thanks everyone! I went for express shipping on an extra gate to come Thursday, so it sounds like it’ll work out thanks to the reassurance that a week should be okay.

Elrohwen – unfortunately I can’t have Simba run free in my bedroom due to allergies and my bathroom is practically the size of the space I have set up for him temporarily. But your suggestions are appreciated! =)
