  I’ve noticed over the past 3-4 days Rye has been drinking a LOT of water. He is downing 900 ml, or 32 ounces (4 cups of water) every 2 days. He used to go through that in 4 days or so. He is acting normally otherwise, eating fine, pooping, peeing (obviously), acting normally…
  
  Is this cause for concern?

  Well it could be a number of things. I would suggest taking Rye to the vet for a blood work up if this continues over the next few days. Edson drinks 32-48 oz a day! I had a lot of tests done and there was nothing conclusive. It was also suggested by someone that it could be due to his past and that maybe he never got enough water and now he’s a bit psycho about it. In your case it doesn’t look like that. Has it been hot? I bet not being in Canada!

  I would have him checked out just to be sure, but I’ve noticed that when I switch brands of hay, my buns drink more water than usual. Have you changed his diet? When I purchase hay (other than Oxbow), my buns drink like crazy! Since I have 4 rabbits, I purchase flakes of hay from my rabbit rescue. For some reason, it makes them more thirsty.

  Mmm, I have switched to a more rich, green hay and that was when he started to drink more. That’s probably it!

  That could be the reason! But, if you want to be sure, take him to your vet for bloodwork. I know from experience (and knowing my buns eating behavior) that it’s the commercial hay from the rescue.

  i think that we determined that 32 oz in 4 days is even a lot. when we were going thru the process with knowltons and Edson, we found out that most buns drink betw/ 2-4 oz per day. he is usually drinking 8 per day? i guess i would not worry too much about it as long as everything seems okay and the vet is not concerned.
