I really had no intention of bringing another rabbit home yet let alone two. This is long. Sorry.
As most of you know Pacey left for the rainbow bridge suddenly around 3 weeks ago.
Dini has not been dealing well with being alone at all. As long as either I was home or he was with other bunnies he was perfectly fine.
Monday I had no choice but to leave him home alone in the bunny room for a few hours as my friend who he visited that has rabbits was going out of town and the shelter where he visits the rabbit I was going to adopt before Pacey pased was having maintenance done. I had to go to class to get the things I needed for upcoming finals so he had to stay home. I was gone for 7 hours.
I came home to a very lethargic rabbit. He refused all food, treats, hay, water, and vegetables. He just sat there in a corner hunched into a ball and his little tummy was hard as a rock. And what little poops he did make were micro. I took him to the vet and he was going into stasis. The vet got him all fixed up after a day and a half and strongly suggested he not be left home alone ever if this is what happens after only a few hours.
That was the last straw. I wasn’t about to lose Dini because I am sad and don’t feel ready for another rabbit. Plus this coming week I will be gone for a lot longer during the day because of finals week. So yesterday evening I went to the shelter to bring home the rabbit I had intended to adopt before Pacey passed.
When I got there he was already in the play area with another rabbit “Edgar”. He was brought in 2 weeks ago because he has really bad eyesight and the previous owner didn’t want to deal with it.
Turns out the bunny I was adopting named “Blot” had pretty much became his seeing eye bunny. Edgar follows Blot around like he is his lifeline. So the shelter made the proposition to see how Dini reacted to Edgar. Hesitant does not begin to describe what I was feeling. I started a checklist in my head on what would happen if Dini liked Edgar as well. Especially since I am staying with my mother while I am in school. But decided to do it anyway.
At first Edgar did NOT appreciate another bunny pushing his was onto Blot. It was war to say the least. But after 2-3 minutes of fighting it was like they had been friends forever. The three of them plopped down on a rug and started eating veggies and grooming each other.
So I signed all the papers and brought Blot and Edgar home this morning.
Picture time! I took these on top of my cats tower because I got tired of chasing them around the house to get pictures. Lol.
Blot has been renamed Enki (pronounced Inky). He is the most hyper rabbit on the face of the planet. There should be a new phrase “Bunny 5000’s” to describe him. I don’t think he actually knows what being still means. He is 4 months old and an otter Mini Rex. He was born at the shelter. He loves other rabbits. People on the other hand he could take or leave. He will let you pet him but only when and how he wants to be pet. And his favorite thing ever is to bite fingers. He doesn’t bite hard but enough to let you know how he feels.

And Edgar has been renamed Banji. My friend’s son who is obsessed with dinosaurs named him. He wanted to name him “Chicken Dino” so we found a dinosaur that reminded him of a giant chicken. Lol. He is super lazy which I am sure has to do with his bad eyes. The vet suspects he has less than 50% of his eyesight. You have to make sure whatever he is eating is in one spot and put directly in front of him. He “scans” a lot as well, his head moves back and forth if he hears something. He loves people it doesn’t matter who you are as long as you are petting him you are his best friend. He is supposed to be 9 months old. But he is very tiny for his age.

And of course the Dini. He is very much a happy bunny now. He is doing binkies left and right. Look over his disheveled look he ran under the couch after a raisin before I put him on the tree and I haven’t brushed him today. So while I may not be emotionally ready completely I am happy to see my Dini acting normal.

Aww I’m so happy for Dini that he has some bunny buddies again. Even if it’s one more than you thought it would be! Those 2 seem like very special little buns, and they must have known how sad little Dini was to bond that quickly with him.
*hugs for Dini and Sonn*
Aww, yay for Dini!
Banji, I love of course because he is a lop. Big chubby face.
They aren’t bonded to the point of all of them living together since Banji is not neutered yet. But they all get along fantastic which surprised me since they are all boys.
Banji has such a squishy face and he is a sweet little guy and a lap bunny. But I don’t think his previous owners gave him hay or vegetables since he doesn’t seem to know what either are. Enki is sweet in his own way. He loves Dini but if he doesn’t want you around he definitely lets you know about it.
I am just happy that Dini is happy.
Sounds like everything worked out for the best, even with the unexpected “catch”. As long as Dini is doing better, that’s all that matters.
Enki and Banji are both so cute! I love otter rabbits. I’m a total sucker for disabled animals, so I think it’s pretty cool that Enki is Banji’s seeing eye bunny.
Happy Dini!
You’ve got yourself a full house there, Sonn, but I am so glad to see that something could be done to help Dini. That stasis episode would’ve scared the pants off any of us.
I hope that eventually the three of them will be a comfy bond and that your finals will go well this week.

I freaked out pretty much when I came home and he was in a corner hunched over but floppy when I picked him up.

I’ve only had Mimzy be floppy like that once. Nothing frightens me more. You just know that is NOT normal bunny posture. ![]()
Dini sure looks even tinier next to Enki and Banji…has he ever grown any further? How big is he now?
Must be the way the pictures were taken because Dini is a lot bigger than the two of them. Enki is almost as big as him but not quite. Banji is super tiny compared to both Dini and Enki. Dini is almost 5lbs Enki is 3.4lbs and Banji is 2.2lbs.
Dini had like a growth spurt or something one day I couldn’t get him to gain weight and the next he got longer and heavier. Lol.
I just wanted to say congrats on your new additions. I’m glad Dini has some new pals and he won’t be lonely anymore. =]
I`m so happy for little Dini. The poor little angel, being so sad. And I`m also happy you are giving these 2 bunnies a wonderful home. I`m sure Pacey would be very pleased that Dini is happy again.
Your new buns are absolutely gorgeous. The only thing stopping me from stealing Enki is the plane trip and the fact that the other buns love him so much. But seriously, I WANT HIM!
No stealing Enki!
He may like to bite me. A lot! But he’s cute and hilarious.
YAYY! I’m sooo happy for you and Dini.
Although it may not be what you had wanted so soon – I think there’s a reason these little boys came into you and Dini’s life. <3 And you seem to already love them also. Maybe they will be able to help you and Dini both heal from the loss of Pacey.
And they are both SO freaking adorable!!! =) (Well, I suppose I should say three!)
Sonn, does Banji have a slight tilt?
No I think it was just the way he was sitting in the pictures. I thought the same thing when I looked at them but in person there is no tilt.
Oh good : )
